Damaged Mods are a special variant of Mods obtainable primarily during the Vor's Prize quest. Identified by visible cracks on the mods' image as well as the word "DAMAGED" in their descriptions, these are weaker versions of preexisting mods available to new players.
Damaged Mods only drop during the Vor's Prize Quest in lieu of their undamaged counterparts, and nine of these Damaged mods are rewarded as the player progresses through the quest. Damaged Mods will only drop during the questline missions, with the exception of the Mercury Junction which rewards damaged copies of Fast Deflection and Streamline. From Hotfix 18.6.2 onwards, these mods cannot be traded.
Damaged Mods still provide the same effects as their undamaged counterparts. However, as their name suggests, these mods have reduced power and/or rank. Damaged Mods come in three types;
- Reduced capacity drain, reduced effect, and a maximum rank of 3.
- Reduced effect, and a maximum rank of 3, with capacity drain unchanged.
- A maximum rank of 3, with capacity drain and effect unchanged.
As a rule, most mods have one damaged counterpart, selected from the pool of damaged variants above. For example, the mod Serration has a damaged mod with reduced drain, effect, and maximum rank, and no other damaged variants.
These mods effectively give new players a hand when starting out, as undamaged mods may be too costly to rank up (both in terms of Credits and Endo), on top of them starting out without any Orokin Reactors or Orokin Catalysts to supercharge their equipment. Once players start gathering enough supplies and mods, they are free to convert these mods to Endo to strengthen their undamaged counterparts.
