CODEX Entry: Frost PrimeCodexbw
Frost Prime has the same chilling abilities as Frost but its altered mod polarities offer different possibilities for customization. It is also rumored that this Warframe has a unique reaction to certain Orokin technology.

Frost Prime features an additional D polarity slot, but has an otherwise identical slot layout to Frost's. The blueprint for Frost Prime was attainable from the Fusion MOA event, and is now currently attainable from the Orokin Void along with its components.

Frost Prime Warframe Blueprints were distributed to anyone that participated in the Fusion MOA Army Extermination Operation, on the condition of at least one Fusion Moa kill, which lasted from 3 May 2013 through to 5 May 2013.

Trivia

  • Frost Prime is the second Prime version of a Warframe and the first to be craftable.
    • The Blueprint for Frost Prime was given out as a reward for participating in the Fusion Moa Event that completed on May 5, 2013.
  • Frost Prime has a secret interaction with Box Traps. Upon approaching one, it will replenish your energy by 100 points and the swirling energy in the Death Orb will change to just black. This can only be done once per Box Trap. This is true for all Prime Warframes.
  • Similar to Excalibur Prime before it, Frost Prime can use alternate helmets (Squall Frost Helmet & Aurora Frost Helmet as well as the default Frost Helmet).
  • The technology oriented by Frost Prime is related to the Orokin technology used to keep the Infestation in stasis, which could be why Frost's release as the first collectible Prime is reasonable as the lore stated to be scavenged by the Tenno as they advance throughout the Solar system.

FrostSnowGlobe Snow Globe Energy: 50Energy small Power #: 3 SnowGlobeMod
Frost deep freezes any vapor and moisture in the surrounding area to create an impenetrable sphere of protection.
Equip Cost:
6 / 7 / 8 / 9
Power Strength:
1500 / 2500 / 3000 / 3500 (base health)
5x (armor multiplier)
40% / 50% / 60% / 67% (slow)
Power Range:
5 m
Power Duration:
30 s (globe duration)
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 s (invulnerability duration)

  • Creates a sphere with a 5 meter radius that lasts for 30 seconds. Snow Globe's radius is affected by Power Range, and duration is affected by Power Duration.
  • Upon activation, Snow Globe is invulnerable for 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 seconds. This invulnerability duration is not affected by Power Duration.
  • 100% of the incoming damage that is absorbed during the invulnerability period is converted into health, and added to Snow Globe's base health of 1500 / 2500 / 3000 / 3500. This base health affected by Power Strength, and is also increased by Frost's Armor value multiplied by 5.
    • Frost and allies do not contribute to Snow Globe's health gain by shooting the globe during the invulnerability period.
  • Most gunfire, both friendly and hostile, is blocked from entering the globe (gunfire can exit the globe normally). Abilities which are not area-of-effect in nature (Ex: Shuriken) are blocked as well. Detonations from a weapon (including enemy weapons) will penetrate inside the globe from the outside.
    • AoE blasts from the attacks of Grineer Napalms and Bombards will still penetrate the globe, as well as their respective Stagger/Knockdown/Burn procs. A globe large enough however will prevent this AoE from hitting players in the direct center or on the opposite end of the globe.
    • Snow Globe will not block direct-targeted attacks, such as Soul Punch, Shock, and Smite. It will block attacks with Punch Through, but not Railgun MOA projectiles.
  • Enemies that enter the globe are slowed by 40% / 50% / 60% / 67% including both movement speed and attack speed. This slow percent is not affected by Power Strength, and slow radius is not affected by Power Range.
  • Can be cast multiple times to create more than a single instance of Snow Globe.

  • Place over a cryo-pod in defense missions to shield it from all incoming fire.
  • Not recommended for Infested missions unless the user prefers using close quarter weapons or melee weapons against the enemies who are slowed inside.
  • When a teammate is downed, place a Snow Globe over him to protect you while reviving.
  • When facing a boss with ranged attacks, do not place a Snow Globe on him. Instead, place it where your team is, as to protect them from incoming damage.
  • When facing a melee boss, you can place a Snow Globe on the boss to slow it down.
    • It's strongly recommended to place a Snow Globe on melee bosses if and only if you have range mods equipped. Otherwise only place it on a boss if your team agrees on this decision.

Maximization is a form of specialization: mods may be blended to result in values that vary between the top-end limits listed here. Click any maximized link to learn how to build it.

  • Maximized Power Duration increases the duration to 77.1 seconds.
    • Reduces the globe radius to 1.7 meters.
    • This reduced radius can be a secondary benefit, allowing the globe to protect a cryopod without obstructing friendly fire.
  • Maximized Power Efficiency reduces the cost to 12.5 energy.
    • Reduces the duration to 12 seconds.
  • Maximized Power Range increases the globe radius to 11.8 meters.
    • Reduces the health to 1400.
  • Maximized Power Strength increases the base health to 8540.
    • Increases the cost to 77.5 energy.
    • Reduces Frost's shields by 5%.
  • Maximized Steel Fiber and Aurora Helmet increases the base health to 5730 (3500+5*446).
    • Reduces Frost's health by 5%.
  • Maximized Power Strength and Steel Fiber will add up to a base health of 10532(using Squall Helmet because he gives you overall more base health than the Aurora Helmet).

FrostAvalanche Avalanche Energy: 100Energy small Power #: 4 AvalancheMod
Summons a treacherous landslide of ice that instantly freezes and shatters all enemies in its radius.
Equip Cost:
10 / 11/ 12 / 13
Power Strength:
800 / 1000 / 1200 / 1500
Power Range:
8 / 10 / 12 / 15 m
Power Duration:
1 s

  • Deals 800 / 1000 / 1200 / 1500 damage to all enemies within a 8 / 10 / 12 / 15 meter radius. Briefly blinds, then freezes enemies for 1 second before damaging them.
    • Damage is affected by Power Strength.
    • Radius is affected by Power Range.
    • The blind phase staggers enemies backwards. As such, this may push them out of the radius of the freeze phase and they will not receive any damage.
    • Blind or freeze duration is not affected by Power Duration mods.
    • Enemies that enter the area after the blind phase can still be frozen from the freeze phase.
  • Has a cast time of ~2.4 seconds and an after cast delay of ~0.75 seconds.
  • Can be activated when sliding, but not while in the air.

Bugs:

  • Cannot use melee weapons while it is activated.
  • Can kill and ragdoll the Stalker.

  • If you equip Overextended mod, this ability will freeze enemies for about 5 seconds after cast is finished, turning Avalanche in a great AOE CC ability. This was confirmed as a bug and has been removed as of the latest patch, but was hinted during the latest livestream that they were thinking of utilizing this "bug" into the actual properties of avalanche.

General

  • Frost has high base armour and excellent shield values and can be played as either an offensive bruiser caster or a defensive tank support . An offensive Frost can focus on abilities such as Ice Wave and Avalanche to slow and clear entire rooms and waves, or use Snow Globe and Freeze for a more defensive role by protecting teammates from gunfire and immobilizing powerful enemies, respectively.
  • His base sprint speed is amongst the slowest of the Warframes. Keep this in mind when dealing with impatient team mates playing faster frames or when running from fast-paced enemies such as disgruntled Infested or Corpus Moa. Adding a sprint speed mod (Rush) of 20% or more is usually considered enough to keep up with other players and reduce the frustration from such a slow base speed. Advanced players may use the "Horizontal Kick-Off" Maneuver to catch up to teamates.

Skills

Freeze

  • Its primary strength is that a direct hit causes the target to be frozen in place for a fixed 10 seconds, regardless of rank. This is particularly useful when fighting single enemies such as bosses to buy time for teammates to revive incapacitated Tenno, recharge shields, reload, etc.
  • Targets that are frozen will be freed of their immobility if they take health damage by anything. Freeze's utility can be easily wasted unless proper coordination with teammates is exercised.
  • Freeze can be used to set up an effective kill-combo on an enemy with a burst-damage attack.

Ice Wave

  • As a damage and crowd control ability, it can be dependent on the situation; it only affects those in front you rather than all around you. It works effectively against a large group of enemies rather than a single enemy like a boss.
  • Even though the wave moves along the floor, it is able to hit enemies that are slightly above or below it, such as Shield Ospreys.
  • Ice Wave is best used against enemies in a tightly-packed line. Loses effectiveness on infested as Ancients resist much of the damage.
  • Since it passes through Snowglobe, Ice Wave can be used to clear the globe of enemies if Frost is somehow forced out of it.

Snow Globe

  • Enemies that enter or are already inside the snow globe will suffer the Cold effect, though their bullets will travel normally when fired inside the shield.
  • Those inside the globe can shoot targets outside, however players outside the globe cannot shoot targets inside; the globe blocks all incoming fire, enemy and player alike. Using a snow globe to trap and slow down a boss is best recommended for an organized team, as players some distance away will have their ordinance blocked by the globe.
  • The probability of being shot at when inside the shield is lower when fighting Grineer Lancers and Corpus crewmen, as they tend to melee when close to players.
  • Creative use of Snow Globe when on the run can be used to block incoming gunfire and slow down chasing enemies.
  • The Snow Globe can also be used as a way through Corpus lasers. Frost's shields will still take a hit, but you'll be able to get through without being staggered or knocked down.
  • This ability is perfect for the defense of any fixed location such as cyropod defense missions against Corpus or Grineer, as you can use it to slow a group of enemies closer to the pod and block their fire from the outside.
  • This ability does not block incoming Ignis fire from Grineer Scorches or rockets form the Ogris.
  • There is a bug where using Snow Globe displays 75 energy is used however only 50 energy is spent upon using this ability
  • When against Infested, Snow Globe is best placed at choke points or around but not directly on top of the cryopod. Their tendency to swarm means that a huge number of infested enemies will quickly be trapped in the Globe making them infinitely easier to kill rather than letting them swarm the pod before they are slowed.
  • In update 12 Snow Globe actually has health and can be taken down by enemies when damaged enough. Making Endless Defence missions against Corpus and Grineer harder.

Avalanche

  • Avalanche stuns and knocks back enemies a small distance when cast, this may result in them being out of range for the freeze and subsequent damage, so it is important to make sure you group enemies effectively before casting.
  • This ability can damage enemies through walls. Using Avalanche while pressed against a wall can clear a room without even entering.
  • Avalanche can hit enemies who are above or below Frost's position.
  • Scales well against Corpus as freeze does double against shields, useful for destroying Corpus being protected by shield Ospreys.
