Limbo manipulates the very planes of existence to divide his enemies and conquer them in the rift.

This is Limbo, master of the Rift.

Tapping into the Void, Limbo demonstrates his art of dimensional travel that disrupts the very fabrics of space itself, banishing allies and foes alike to the Rift Plane. Limbo arrived from the Rift Plane in Update 15.0.

Component blueprints are awarded from The Limbo Theorem quest, obtainable by completing the Europa Junction on Jupiter. An Archwing is required to begin the quest's missions.

  • It is advisable not to dispose of Limbo as of now, as currently the Quest to obtain Limbo can't be redone.
    • You can obtain Limbo parts if you join a player hosting the Quest. For example when Limbo parts are dropped from Quest excavation missions, everyone will get them, even if you already finished the Quest, allowing you to get Limbo parts again.

TriviaEdit

  • Limbo is the second Warframe who sells for Credits64‍ 25,000, rather than the standard Credits64‍ 10,000 (The first being Loki Prime).
  • Limbo is the first Warframe who has a body part that can detach from its body while in a mission, in this case the upper portion of his base helmet (and by extension, his alternate helmets) that resembles and functions like a top hat.
  • In Catholic theology, Limbo is a realm where innocent souls temporarily stay in until they can enter heaven. In modern usage, 'Limbo' refers to an uncertain state where progress cannot be made.
  • Limbo's physical appearance, emulating a top hat and coat, evokes the appearance of a stage magician.
    • Alternatively, Limbo appears to have many similarities to Baron Samedi, a Loa of Haitian Vodou. Baron Samedi is depicted wearing a top hat and dinner jacket, and spends most of his time in another realm/plane. He is tasked with deciding whether or not someone will die and be accepted into the realm of the dead, typically by digging the grave of someone destined to die.
  • Limbo is currently the tallest Warframe in the game when including his top hat, even surpassing Oberon in height.
  • According to his associated questline, the original Limbo Warframe that the player obtains information about (and subsequent blueprints from the data) died while crossing into the rift plane, in which Ordis insists the player be more careful as to not repeat the same mistake.

Rift EfficiencyEdit

Limbo can access the Rift Plane, an alternate dimensional space within the environment. Certain actions performed in the Rift, most notably weapon attacks, cannot affect entities in the main dimension---and vice-versa. Several of Limbo's abilities impose the Rift upon the world around him, affecting himself, the spatial environment, enemies, and even allies.

Additionally, while Limbo is inside of the Rift, his holster speed and reload speed are 50% faster and his movement speed is increased by 10%.

Rift PlaneEdit

Main article: Rift Plane

The Rift Plane is an alternate dimension to the normal environment, or Material Plane, where most WARFRAME gameplay takes place. While a player is in the rift, their screen becomes tinted and sound becomes muffled. Generally, entities in the rift plane cannot interact with entities in the material plane, though there are substantial exceptions. A Limbo can transition friends, foes, and himself between the two planes with his abilities providing him opportunity for vast amount of synergies.

  • Limbo banishes an ally or enemy within 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 meters, sending it into the rift plane for 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 seconds.
  • Banish exhibits different effects when applied to ally or enemy targets.

  • Players affected by Banish can leave the rift plane by performing front rolls (default Shift) or backflips (default RMB + S + Shift)
  • Warframes regenerate 2 energy per second. Rift energy recharge is constant and cannot be deactivated by channeled abilities and Eximus energy draining auras.
  • Warframe abilities can penetrate through the rift to affect targets on different dimensional planes.
  • Ranged and melee weapon attacks only apply when the ally and its target are both present in the rift. Otherwise, weapons damage, Critical Hits, and Status Effects have no effect on both parties; hitscan and projectiles will phase through entities on different dimensional planes.
  • Banished players are immune to Eximus aura effects, environmental hazard and Infested Hive Status Effects, Grineer Arc Traps and Sensor Bar Magnetic b Magnetic force fields, Corpus Laser Barriers, Orokin laser death orbs, and Spy 2.0 laser sensors from outside the rift. However, they still succumb to most bosses' special abilities, as well as power nullifying effects from Nullifier Crewman, Comba, Scrambus, Datalyst, Isolator Bursa, Disrupter Drone and the Stalker.
  • Banished players cannot prompt the interact function (default X) on interactive objects in the environment.
    • Banished players can still revive and be revived by other players outside the rift.
    • Portable items (Datamasses, Power Cores, and Void Keys) will be dropped and cannot be carried.
  • Banished players cannot collect Pickups on the ground. However, the Vacuum precept can gather pickups in midair until the owner exits the rift.
  • Banished players are visually coated in layer of white rift energy.

  • Banished enemies suffer a Knockdown and receive 250 / 300 / 400 / 500 initial Impact b Impact damage and an additional 300 transitional Impact b Impact damage upon entering or leaving the rift plane.
    • Initial damage is affected by Power Strength, while rift transition damage is not.
  • Warframe abilities can penetrate through the rift to affect targets on different dimensional planes.
  • Ranged and melee weapon attacks only apply when the enemy and its target are both present in the rift. Otherwise, weapons damage, Critical Hits, and Status Effects have no effect on both parties; hitscan and projectiles will phase through entities on different dimensional planes.

  • Banish does not affect static mission objectives such as Cryopods and Excavators. However, it does affect Bosses, Rescue targets, and assassins such as Zanuka and The Grustrag Three.
  • Cast delay of 0.5 seconds is affected by Natural Talent and Speed Drift, while the post-cast delay of 1 second is not.
  • Can be cast on multiple targets and can be recast on the same targets to end Banish.
  • Casting Banish is a One-Handed Action that can be done while performing many actions without interrupting them, including reloading, charging, shooting, and maneuvering.
  • Cannot be cast on players carrying mission-related items such as datamass and power cell.

Haven is a Warframe Augment Mod for Limbo that makes Banish restore a portion of an injured ally's health.

  • Use Banish to bring a high priority target into the Rift Plane. The target will be unable to damage players outside the rift, allowing your squad to eliminate the enemy fodder around it. Unbanish the target to knock it down for an easy kill.
  • Banish a Rescue target to protect him/her from harm while you head toward extraction.
  • While within Cataclysm with an intended enemy target, Banish will not alter the plane status of your target, as it will remain within the Rift Plane. However, the target will still be knocked down and dealt Banish's initial damage.
  • Can be used on Loki's Decoy, Saryn's Molt or Chroma's Effigy to make them immune to damage from enemies that are not in the Rift Plane.
    • Can also be cast on Shield Osprey Specters, which is very useful considering that Shield Ospreys often will simply wander into groups of enemies and die rather quickly, and because the shield link works through the rift plane.

  • Limbo phases into the rift plane for 10 / 15 / 25 / 30 seconds, allowing him to gain all of the rift plane's benefits and drawbacks. Rift Walk will end if the ability duration ends, or if deactivated by pressing the ability key again (default 2).
  • While in the rift plane, Limbo experiences the following changes. For full information on rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane article.
    • Any Companion Limbo has with him will also phase into the Rift.
    • Limbo regenerates 2 energy per second. This can combine with Energy Siphon for faster regeneration.
    • Weapon attacks only apply when Limbo and his target are both present in the rift plane. Otherwise, weapons damage, Critical Hits, and Status Effects have no effect on both parties.
    • Banish and Cataclysm can pull enemies into the rift plane, allowing Limbo to damage them during Rift Walk.
    • Warframe abilities can affect targets across both the material and rift planes.
    • Limbo can still revive teammates but cannot interact with Life Support Capsules.
    • Portable items like Datamasses, Power Cores, and Void Keys will be dropped and cannot be carried.
    • Pickups cannot be collected.
  • Casting delay of 1.5 seconds is affected by Natural Talent.
  • Manual deactivation is instantaneous and can be performed during other actions, such as reloading, shooting, casting abilities, sliding, or while knocked down.

  • While Rift Walk is active:
    • Limbo is immune to damage from enemies not within the rift plane. He can attract enemy attention by moving into a crowd and act as an invulnerable decoy.
    • Use Banish to target a specific enemy. It will be knocked down and transferred to the Rift Plane, allowing Limbo to damage it with ranged weapons and perform a Ground Finisher melee attack on it.
    • Place Cataclysm on a group of enemies to transfer them into the rift plane. Cataclysm isolates the enemies within the sphere, preventing them from damaging allies outside, and allowing Limbo to use ranged weapons to dispatch them from a safe distance.
      • However, allies not within the rift plane cannot damage the isolated group of enemies.
    • Limbo can walk through activated Laser Barriers without taking damage or tripping the alarms in Spy missions.
  • It is useful when reviving an ally.
  • While inside Cataclysm, activating Rift Walk allows Limbo to remain in the rift plane when he moves outside the sphere.
    • Staying in Rift Walk before deactivating Cataclysm allows Limbo to remain invulnerable to enemies outside after the sphere collapses. This tactic is particularly useful against Nullifier Crewman that remain shielded by their nullification shield dome even when within Cataclysm.

  • Limbo will still be affected by the Toxin b Toxin procs of Venomous Eximi, and will be damaged by certain hazards generated during Hive Sabotage missions.

    Surge the void energy through the rift plane, increasing the damage inflicted on enemies that have been banished there.

    • Limbo sends forth a surge of void energy, causing him to gain 50% / 100% / 150% / 200% bonus weapon damage while within the Rift Plane for 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 seconds.
      • Damage bonus is affected by Power Strength.
      • Rift Surge grants an additive bonus that's applied to your weapon's base damage. As an example, +30% power strength will increase the damage bonus to 2*1.3 = 260%. For an unmodified weapon that inflicts 250 base damage, Rift Surge will increase that value to 250*(1 + 2.6) = 900.
      • Duration is affected by Power Duration.

    • The effects of Rift Surge are only applied to Limbo.
    • Rift energy particles will orbit and trail around Limbo during Rift Surge.

    A violent blast of void energy tears open a pocket of rift plane which can sustain itself for a short period before collapsing in another lethal blast.

    • Limbo creates a dimensional nexus bridging the Material and Rift Planes, forming a sphere of swirling void energy with an initial radius of 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 meters centered around the HUD's target reticle. The sphere continuously shrinks over a duration of 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 seconds to a final radius of 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 meters before collapsing on itself.
    • The sphere will be created wherever the reticle is aiming when the casting animation finishes, allowing time before then to fine-tune the sphere's placement.
    • Only 1 Cataclysm can exist per Limbo. An existing sphere can be deactivated by pressing the ability key again (default 4).
    • Cataclysm exhibits different effects on allies, enemies, and objects within its influence.

    • Allies can freely move between the Material and Rift Planes by entering and exiting the sphere.
    • Warframes regenerate 2 energy per second.
    • Weapon attacks only apply when allies and their targets are both present in the Rift Plane. Otherwise, weapons damage, Critical Hits, and Status Effects have no effect on both parties.
    • Warframe abilities can affect targets across the Material and Rift Planes.
    • Players can still revive teammates, but cannot interact with consoles or activate Life Support Capsules.

    • Rift Walk causes Limbo to enter the Rift Plane, allowing him to damage enemies within Cataclysm.
    • Cataclysm does affect most bosses and objectives that are otherwise not affected by Banish, causing them to enter the Rift Plane while within the sphere.
    • Nullifier Crewman is affected by Cataclysm and will be sent to the Rift Plane. However, his nullification shield will remain in the Material Plane, blocking all outside attacks directed at the Nullifier Crewman but allowing him to damage entities outside freely.
    • Enemies are engulfed in white flames while in the Rift Plane.

    • Cataclysm will pull Cryopods, Power Cores and Excavators into the Rift Plane. These objects will remain in the rift as long as the bottom center part of their in-game model is within the Cataclysm sphere.
    • Breakable objects such as Storage Containers will not be pulled into the Rift Plane.
    • Reinforced Glass can be broken by either Cataclysm's initial explosion or expiration explosion.
    • Portable items like Datamasses, Power Cores, and Void Keys will be dropped and cannot be carried.
    • Pickups within Cataclysm cannot be collected by players.

    Cataclysmic Continuum is a Warframe Augment Mod for Limbo that extends Cataclysm's duration for every enemy killed inside it.

    • Because Cataclysm prevents enemy fire outside the sphere from damaging objects inside it, this ability can be used as an alternative to Snow Globe in protecting Defense, Mobile Defense and Excavation objectives.
      • Take note that using it in this manner will prevent Power Cores from being delivered to Excavators in Excavation missions until the ability expires.
    • While Cataclysm can be used to protect an objective or team members from harm directly, it is also possible to manage ranged threats by surrounding them with the skill instead of the players, then eliminating them individually as they are revealed by the shrinking sphere.
      • Generally, this is disadvantageous when facing high concentrations of melee enemies, as it effectively provides them cover from the team until outside the sphere.
      • Using Cataclysm in this way is most effective when enemies are in open spaces or stationary. In particular, Corpus MOAs and the heavy units from several factions exhibit the tendency to stand in the open and fire while relatively stationary, leaving them vulnerable to this technique.
      • This method offers an alternative means of managing scattered groups of enemies without denying use of datamasses or power cells around important objectives; especially applicable in Excavation missions, where such items must be used frequently to avoid delaying progress.
    • When debating whether to emphasize Duration or Range mods in a Cataclysm-oriented build, consider that the Range will often dictate the "effective duration" of the ability, since it can often become smaller than is useful in the latter stages of its duration.
      • Narrow Minded is a mod to consider carefully before equipping at high level, since it will not only decrease the maximum size of the sphere, but also the minimum size. This is especially important since Narrow Minded will also serve to prolong the skill's later stages in which it has shrunken considerably and may be less useful.
        • This mod can also be highly advantageous when size is of less importance than duration, such as screening Defense, Mobile Defense, or Excavation missions objectives from harm.
      • Since Range mods improve both the Starting AND Finishing range of the skill, it is possible to create a Cataclysm which never becomes too small to fight inside before it ends naturally, never requiring an early recast.
    • Volt's Electric Shield ability can be used to shoot out of Cataclysm and damage enemies in the Material Plane using weapons. (needs confirmation)
    • Is not advisable to cast this skill on Stalker or other assassins because of the poor visibility inside the sphere.

    • Maximized Power Duration increases duration to 84.6 seconds.
      • Reduces initial radius 5.44 meters and final radius to 1.7 meters.

    All of Limbo's abilities revolve around the concepts of the Material Plane and Rift Plane. These planes are two separate dimensions, where ally, enemy, and Limbo himself can be moved between through the use of Banish, Rift Walk, and Cataclysm.

    MechanicsEdit

    Main article: Rift Plane

    Units can only damage other units if they are both in the same dimensional plane. Units on different planes cannot damage or be damaged by each other, nor be affected by knockdown, stagger, and Status Effect procs.

    Players in the Rift Plane regenerate Energy at a rate of 2 units per second, but cannot get Pickups nor carry mission items such as Datamasses or Power Cells.

    The very act of moving between planes is violent, causing enemies to take 300 Impact b Impact damage upon entering and upon exiting the Rift Plane, regardless of what ability put them there. This damage is in addition to the damage caused by Limbo's abilities, and is not affected by Power Strength. Warframes do not take this damage.

    TipsEdit

    • Limbo's abilities give him great survivability, making him a good solo frame. He can become invulnerable to every enemy except the ones he chooses, and being in the Rift Plane grants a consistent source of energy.
    • If using Limbo as a solo frame, a maxed Natural Talent is suggested, as it will help with emergency Rift Walks.
    • One of the best ways to play Limbo solo is to stay in the Rift Plane and use the constant energy generation to Banish enemies and pick them off one by one. Rift Walk's cheap energy cost synergizes well with this.
    • Limbo can use a single Banish to give a Warframe Energy Regeneration, Invulnerability and with Haven Health Regeneration for only 25 base Energy, making Limbo a very usefull support Warframe.
    • In Defense and Mobile Defense Missions, Limbo can use Cataclysm to transport the defending Warframes and the mission object to the Rift Plane, making it and the Warframes invulnerable to all enemies outside of the Cataclysm. This works especially well against strong ranged enemies.
    • In Spy Missions, being in the Rift Plane will not trigger alarms when passing through Laser Barriers, making some Data Vaults extremely easy.
      • Enemies, Cameras, and Sensor Regulators can still detect you while in the Rift Plane.
      • Using Banish on a Loki with Invisibility active can let them have free mobility through Data Vaults, as Loki will be undetectable by Cameras, Regulators, Enemies, and Laser Barriers.
      • When raiding a Spy mission alone, using a Huras Kubrow or Shade Sentinel to hide from enemies will make Limbo invisible and untouchable, thus he can simply ignore all barriers, enemies and other countermeasures in the vaults all by himself. The only significant obstacles can be Nullifier Crewmen, Fog Comba and Nul Comba enemies, disrupting the abilities. Seeking out enemy types and locations through walls with a Synthesis Scanner and moving around them will still ensure a flawless theft in all but a few cases.
