AcquisitionEdit

Component blueprints are awarded from The Limbo Theorem quest, obtainable by completing the Europa Junction on Jupiter. An Archwing is required to begin the quest's missions.

Warframe GuidesEdit

See Category:Limbo Guides to read user-made guides on how to play this Warframe.

NotesEdit

  • It is advisable not to dispose of Limbo as of now, as currently the Quest to obtain Limbo can't be redone.
    • You can obtain Limbo parts if you join a player hosting the Quest. For example when Limbo parts are dropped from Quest excavation missions, everyone will get them, even if you already finished the Quest, allowing you to get Limbo parts again.

TriviaEdit

  • Limbo is the second Warframe who sells for Credits6425,000, rather than the standard Credits6410,000 (The first being Loki Prime).
  • Limbo is the first Warframe who has a body part that can detach from its body while in a mission, in this case the upper portion of his base helmet (and by extension, his alternate helmets) that resembles and functions like a top hat.
  • In Catholic theology, Limbo is a realm where innocent souls temporarily stay in until they can enter heaven. In modern usage, 'Limbo' refers to an uncertain state where progress cannot be made.
  • Limbo's physical appearance, emulating a top hat and coat, evokes the appearance of a stage magician.
    • Alternatively, Limbo appears to have many similarities to Baron Samedi, a Loa of Haitian Vodou. Baron Samedi is depicted wearing a top hat and dinner jacket, and spends most of his time in another realm/plane. He is tasked with deciding whether or not someone will die and be accepted into the realm of the dead, typically by digging the grave of someone destined to die.
  • Limbo is currently the tallest Warframe in the game when including his top hat, even surpassing Oberon in height.
  • According to his associated questline, the original Limbo Warframe that the player obtains information about (and subsequent blueprints from the data) died while crossing into the rift plane, in which Ordis insists the player be more careful as to not repeat the same mistake.
  • Limbo is currently the only Warframe who doesn't have a roll animation due to his unique passive mechanic. Instead, his dash into the Rift replaces it.
    • When performing a back-spring, Limbo will reach up and quickly remove the unique module of his currently equipped helmet, "tipping" his "hat" whilst sliding backward.

BugsEdit

  • Limbo's hat may be displaced on his head after casting abilities.

Rift WalkEdit

Main article: Rift Plane

Limbo has access to the Rift plane, an alternate dimension to the normal environment, or material plane. By performing a Roll (default Shift ), a Sidespring (A  or D  + Shift ), or a Backspring (RMB  + S  + Shift ), Limbo slides into and out of the Rift plane at will. Several of Limbo's abilities impose the Rift upon the world around him, affecting himself, the environment, enemies, and even allies.

  • Limbo can remain indefinitely in either dimension, until he performs the triggering maneuvers again or travels freely between both planes via Cataclysm.
    • Rift Walk also affects Limbo's Companion which will walk the same dimensional plane as its owner, unless it crosses planes via Cataclysm.
  • When sliding into the Rift plane, Limbo leaves a portal in his wake that lasts 5 seconds. Ally players can touch the portal to enter the Rift for 15 seconds, after which they will return to the material plane.
    • Allies can perform the trigger maneuvers to return to the material plane.
    • Limbo himself can use the portal to enter the Rift with no time limit.
  • Additionally, while Limbo and enemies are inside the Rift, each Rift-bound enemy killed grants him 10 energy.

AbilitiesEdit

Banish LimboBanish
ENERGY
25
KEY
1
Banish
Casts a wave of Rift energy that damages hostiles while pushing enemies and allies out of Limbo’s current plane of existence.
Strength:150 / 200 / 225 / 250 (damage)
Duration:10 / 15 / 20 / 25 s
Range:20 / 25 / 30 / 35 m (wave distance)
10 m (initial width)
? ° (spread angle)

  • Limbo unleashes a wave of invisible Rift energy in a cone toward the HUD's targeting reticle. The wave starts at a diameter of 10 meters in width and immediately spreads in a ?-degree angle, up to 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 meters away from Limbo. All enemies and allies caught in the wave's extent are banished out of Limbo's current plane of existence: if Limbo is in the material plane, only material-bound targets will be banished into the Rift plane for 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 seconds; if Limbo is in the Rift, then only Rift-bound targets will return to the material plane.
    • Duration is affected by Ability Duration.
    • Wave distance is affected by Ability Range, while the initial width and spread angle are not.
    • Wave bypasses obstacles in the environment and does not require line of sight with targets.
    • Cast animation of 0.7 seconds is not affected by Natural Talent or Speed Drift.
  • Banish exhibits various effects when applied to ally or enemy targets:

  • Targets banished into the Rift can be banished out of it by any Limbo.
  • Targets in different dimensional planes can still physically collide with each other.
  • Weapon attacks are only effective when the combatants are all present in the same dimensional plane. Otherwise, weapon damage, critical hits, and status effects have no effect on both parties; hit-scan and projectiles will phase through entities on different planes.
  • Warframe abilities can penetrate through the Rift to affect targets on different dimensional planes.
  • The following effects cannot affect targets on different planes: Infested Ancient and Eximus aura effects, most environmental and Infested Hive hazards, Grineer Arc Traps and Sensor Bar force fields, Corpus Laser Barriers, Orokin Death Orbs, and Spy 2.0 laser sensors do not trip the data vault alarm.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane article.

  • Players affected by Banish can leave the Rift plane by performing a roll (default Shift ) or a backspring (default RMB  + S  + Shift ).
  • Warframes regenerate 2 energy per second. This energy recharge is constant and cannot be interrupted, except by some abilities or by exiting the Rift.
  • Banished players still succumb to most bosses' special abilities, as well as ability nullifying effects from Nullifier Crewman, Comba, Scrambus, Datalyst, Isolator Bursa, Disruptor Drone and the Stalker.
  • Banished players cannot prompt the interact function (default X ) on most interactive objects in the environment.
    • Banished players can still revive and be revived by other players outside the Rift.
    • Portable items (datamasses, power cores and void keys) cannot be picked up, but will be carried through the Rift.
  • Banished players cannot collect pickups on the ground. However, a Sentinel's Vacuum precept can gather pickups in midair until the player exits the Rift plane.
  • Players are visually coated in a layer of white energy while in the Rift plane.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane article.

  • Enemies affected by Banish are knocked down and dealt 150 / 200 / 225 / 250 Impact b Impact damage. Additionally, they take 300 Impact b Impact transitional damage upon entering or leaving the Rift plane.
    • Ability damage is affected by Ability Strength, while the transition damage is not.
  • Rift Walking causes Limbo to enter the Rift plane, allowing him to damage banished enemies. Allies can elect to enter the Rift via the portal created by Limbo's stride to damage banished enemies.
  • Cataclysm causes Limbo and his allies to enter the Rift plane while inside its influence, allowing them to damage banished enemies outside the Cataclysm.
  • Oxium Ospreys and Volatile Runners will charge and detonate regardless of whether they are in the same plane as their intended targets. However, the explosion will only deal damage to enemies on the same plane.
  • Enemies are visually coated in rippling energy and monochrome flames while in the Rift plane.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane article.

  • Banish a Rescue target to protect him/her from harm while you head toward extraction.
  • While within Cataclysm with an intended enemy target, Banish will not alter the plane status of your target, as it will remain within the Rift plane. However, the target will still be knocked down and be dealt Banish's damage.
  • Can be used on Loki's Decoy, Saryn's Molt or Chroma's Effigy to make them immune to damage from enemies that are not in the Rift plane.
    • Can also be cast on Shield Osprey specters, which is very useful considering that Shield Ospreys often will simply wander into groups of enemies and die rather quickly, and because the shield link works through the Rift plane.

Stasis LimboRiftWalk
ENERGY
50
KEY
2
Stasis
Freezes Rift-bound enemies. While active, weapon fire is arrested in mid-air, resuming trajectory when Stasis ends.
Strength:N/A
Duration:10 / 15 / 25 / 30 s
Range:

  • Limbo halts all enemies in the Rift, freezing them in suspended animation for 10 / 15 / 25 / 30 seconds. Additionally, enemy and allied weapon hit-scan fire and projectiles within the Rift will be suspended in mid-air for the duration; up to 300 projectiles can be suspended by Stasis, exceeding this limit will end the ability prematurely.
    • Projectile limit is not affected by Ability Strength.
    • Duration is affected by Ability Duration.
    • While active, affects enemies that enter the Rift at any time.
    • Due to game performance issues, the following weapons have a reduced limit of projectiles suspended before Stasis is forced to end: 20 Pox blobs and clouds, 25 Tonkor grenades, and 10 Staticor energy blasts.
    • Cast and deactivation animations of 1 second, are affected by Natural Talent and Speed Drift.
  • As the number of suspended projectiles approaches the limit, the Rift will visually distort and ripple with increasing intensity before Stasis ends prematurely.
  • Upon deactivation by pressing the ability key again (default 2 ), expiration, being dispelled, or reaching the projectile limit, all suspended projectiles will fly towards their set trajectory one by one, rather than simultaneously. In addition, all enemies will resume their actions prior to being stopped.
  • Stasis can be activated and deactivated, regardless of whether Limbo is in the Rift or not.
  • Manual deactivation is instantaneous and can be performed during other actions, such as reloading, shooting, casting abilities, sliding, or while knocked-down.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane article.

  • Activating Stasis before banishing enemies is an effective way of protecting yourself whilst in the Rift.
  • Having Stasis active while your Cataclysm is active, will prevent you from taking any damage from new enemies that enter your Cataclysm's radius.
    • Melee weapons and abilities can be used to quickly dispatch frozen enemies, since they are not affected in the same way as ranged weapons and offensive abilities tend to cross the rift barrier.
  • Synthesis targets and Feral Kavats can be put in Stasis, making it a lot easier to scan them.

Maximization is a form of specialization: mods may be blended to result in values that vary between the top-end limits listed here. Click any maximized link to learn how to build it.

The effects of Stasis held by one Limbo cannot be deactivated by a different Limbo. If two different Limbos activate their Stasis, deactivating the one cast second will not resume action of suspended targets.

Aside the few weapons that have a reduced projectile limit, the Sonicor cycles between 12 and 13 energy blasts fired before ending Stasis. The Zarr's alternate fire will immediately end Stasis.

RiftSurge LimboVolatile
ENERGY
50
KEY
3
Rift Surge
Surges nearby Rift-bound enemies with Rift energy. When killed the Rift Surge is transferred to a nearby enemy outside the rift. Surged enemies that leave the Rift perform a radial Banish.
Strength:N/A
Duration:10 / 15 / 20 / 25 s (surge duration)
6 / 10 / 14 / 18 s (banish duration)
Range:10 / 15 / 20 / 25 m (surge range)
? / 3 / 4 / 5 m (banish radius)

  • Limbo produces a surge of Rift energy, charging all enemies currently in the Rift plane within a radius of 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 meters for 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 seconds. Surged enemies that leave the Rift plane will discharge their Rift energy, ending their surge and instantly banishing themselves back into the Rift along with enemies that are in the material plane within a ? / 3 / 4 / 5 meter radius, for 6 / 10 / 14 / 18 seconds.
  • Killing a surged enemy will transfer its charge to a nearby enemy within ? meters in the material plane. Enemies banished by the effect of Rift Surge will be knocked-down and take 300 Impact b Impact transitional damage upon entering the Rift plane.
  • Limbo does not need to be in any particular plane to activate Rift Surge, but at least one enemy must be in the Rift and within range to cast it.
  • Cannot be recast unless an unaffected enemy enters the Rift and/or comes within range.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane mechanic.

Rift Torrent 3

3 30% 9

  • Casting Banish on a surged enemy in the Rift will allow you to take nearby enemies into the Rift as well, instead of having to exit the Rift or cast Cataclysm.
    • It's usually beneficial to have Stasis active before new enemies come in, so that you don't take unnecessary damage from the newly banished enemies.

Maximization is a form of specialization: mods may be blended to result in values that vary between the top-end limits listed here. Click any maximized link to learn how to build it.

  • Maximized Ability Duration increases surge duration to 76.5 seconds and banish duration to 55.08 seconds.
    • Reduces surge range to 8.5 meters and banish radius to 1.7 meters.
  • Maximized Ability Efficiency reduces cost to 12.5 energy.
    • Reduces surge duration to 10 seconds and banish duration to 7.2 seconds.
  • Maximized Ability Range increases surge range to 70 meters and banish radius to 14 meters.
    • Has no negative effects on this ability.
  • Maximized Ability Strength has no positive effects on this ability.
    • Increases cost to 77.5 energy.
    • Reduces surge duration to 18.13 seconds and banish duration to 13.05 seconds.

Cataclysm LimboTearInSpace
ENERGY
100
KEY
4
Cataclysm
A violent blast of void energy tears open a pocket of rift plane which can sustain itself for a short period before collapsing in another lethal blast.
Strength:200 / 300 / 400 / 500 (damage)
Duration:15 / 20 / 25 / 30 s
Range:∞ (cast range)
10 / 12 / 14 / 16 m (initial radius)
2 / 3 / 4 / 5 m (final radius)

  • Limbo creates a dimensional nexus bridging the Material and Rift planes, forming a sphere of swirling void energy with an initial radius of 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 meters centered around the HUD's target reticle. The sphere continuously shrinks over a duration of 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 seconds to a final radius of 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 meters before collapsing on itself.
    • Duration is affected by Ability Duration.
    • Initial and final radii are affected by Ability Range.
    • The sphere will be created wherever the reticle is aiming when the casting animation finishes, allowing time before then to fine-tune the sphere's placement.
    • Cast animation of 2 seconds is affected by Natural Talent and Speed Drift.
  • Cataclysm will collapse when deactivated manually by pressing the ability key again (default 4 ), its duration expires, it is dispelled, or by coming in contact with a nullifying field (Nullifier Crewman, Isolator Bursa).
  • Cataclysm exhibits various effects on allies, enemies, and objects within its influence.

  • Allies can freely move between the material and Rift planes by entering and exiting the sphere.
  • Warframes regenerate 2 energy per second. This energy recharge is constant and cannot be interrupted, except by some abilities or by exiting the Rift.
  • Weapon attacks only apply when allies and their targets are both present in the Rift. Otherwise, weapon damage, critical hits, and status effects have no effect on both parties.
  • Warframe abilities can affect targets across the different dimensional planes.
  • Players can still revive teammates, but cannot interact with consoles or activate Life Support capsules.
  • Players are visually coated in a layer of white energy while in the Rift plane.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane mechanic.

  • Enemies can freely move between the material and Rift planes by entering and exiting the sphere.
  • Cataclysm's formation and collapse each deal 200 / 300 / 400 / 500 Blast b Blast damage to enemies caught within the area of effect. Additionally, collapsing deals bonus damage based on the average health and shields of enemies caught in the explosion:
    • Bonus Damage = (Sum of Enemies' Max Health + Sum of Enemies' Max Shields) ÷ Number of Enemies [citation needed]
      • Bonus damage further scales with Cataclysm's current range/duration, dealing 25% of its total when at its maximum and ranking up to 100% when at its minimum.
    • Base damage from either explosion does not diminish with distance and is affected by Ability Strength, while the collapse bonus is not.
    • Additionally, enemies caught in either explosion take 300 Impact b Impact transitional damage upon entering or leaving the Rift plane.
  • Weapon attacks only apply when enemies and their targets are both present in the Rift. Otherwise, weapon damage, critical hits, and status effects have no effect on both parties.
  • Warframe abilities can affect targets across the different dimensional planes.
  • Rift Walking causes Limbo to enter the Rift plane, allowing him to damage enemies within Cataclysm.
  • Cataclysm affects most bosses and objectives that are otherwise not affected by Banish, causing them to enter the Rift plane while within its influence.
  • Enemies are visually coated in rippling energy and monochrome flames while in the Rift plane.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane mechanic.

  • Cataclysm will pull Cryopods and Excavators into the Rift plane. These objects will remain in the Rift as long as the bottom center part of their in-game model is within the Cataclysm sphere.
  • Cataclysm's forming explosion can break Reinforced Glass, while the collapsing explosion can break the former as well as Storage Containers.
  • Portable items like datamasses, power cores and void keys within the Cataclysm can be picked up and carried, and will not be dropped by transitioning between planes.
  • Pickups within Cataclysm can be collected by players.
  • For more information on Rift-related attributes, see the Rift Plane mechanic.

CataclysmicContinuum
Main article: Cataclysmic Continuum

Cataclysmic Continuum is a Warframe Augment Mod for Limbo that extends Cataclysm's duration for every enemy killed inside it.

Rank Duration Bonus Cost

2 0.7s 8

  • Because Cataclysm prevents enemy fire outside the sphere from damaging objects inside it, this ability can be used as an alternative to Snow Globe in protecting Defense, Mobile Defense and Excavation objectives.
    • Power Cores can be picked up and delivered to Excavators safely, all within the Cataclysm.
  • Kuva Guardians will remain in the material plane, even inside a Cataclysm, while retaining their Keshegs.
    • This can help in Kuva Siphon missions to ignore them completely, or disarm them through the Rift since Operator powers work across planes.
  • While Cataclysm can be used to protect an objective or team members from harm directly, it is also possible to manage ranged threats by surrounding them with the skill instead of the players, then eliminating them individually as they are revealed by the shrinking sphere.
    • Generally, this is disadvantageous when facing high concentrations of melee enemies, as it effectively provides them cover from the team until outside the sphere.
      • Allies can be Banished so they can attack enemies within Cataclysm without them needing to go inside it.
    • Using Cataclysm in this way is most effective when enemies are in open spaces or stationary. In particular, Corpus MOAs and the heavy units from several factions exhibit the tendency to stand in the open and fire while relatively stationary, leaving them vulnerable to this technique.
      • Stasis can also be activated to keep enemies inside the Cataclysm.
    • This method offers an alternative means of managing scattered groups of enemies without denying the use of datamasses in Mobile Defense, since players in the Rift cannot interact with consoles, even if they are carrying a datamass.
  • When debating whether to emphasize Duration or Range mods in a Cataclysm-oriented build, consider that the Range will often dictate the "effective duration" of the ability, since it can often become smaller than is useful in the latter stages of its duration.
    • Narrow Minded is a mod to consider carefully before equipping at high level, since it will not only decrease the maximum size of the sphere, but also the minimum size. This is especially important since Narrow Minded will also serve to prolong the skill's later stages in which it has shrunken considerably and may be less useful.
      • This mod can also be highly advantageous when size is of less importance than duration, such as screening Defense, Mobile Defense, or Excavation missions objectives from harm.
    • Since Range mods improve both the initial AND final range of the skill, it is possible to create a Cataclysm which never becomes too small to fight inside before it ends naturally, never requiring an early recast.
  • The darkest black energy color from the Smoke color palette can greatly increase visibility within the sphere.

Maximization is a form of specialization: mods may be blended to result in values that vary between the top-end limits listed here. Click any maximized link to learn how to build it.

All of Limbo's abilities revolve around the concepts of the Material Plane and Rift Plane. These planes are two separate dimensions, where ally, enemy, and Limbo himself can be moved between through the use of Banish, Dodging, and Cataclysm.

MechanicsEdit

Main article: Rift Plane

Units can only damage other units if they are both in the same dimensional plane. Units on different planes cannot damage or be damaged by each other, nor be affected by knockdown, stagger, and Status Effect procs.

Players in the Rift Plane regenerate Energy at a rate of 2 units per second and can carry mission items such as Datamasses or Power Cells, but cannot get Pickups (unless they are within a Cataclysm).

The very act of moving between planes is violent, causing enemies to take 300 Impact b Impact damage upon entering and upon exiting the Rift Plane, regardless of what ability put them there. This damage is in addition to the damage caused by Limbo's abilities, and is not affected by Ability Strength. Warframes do not take this damage.

TipsEdit

  • Limbo's abilities give him great survivability, making him a good solo frame. He can become invulnerable to every enemy except the ones he chooses, and being in the Rift Plane grants a consistent source of energy.
  • Limbo can use a single Banish to give a Warframe Energy Regeneration, Invulnerability and with Haven Health Regeneration for only 25 base Energy, making Limbo a very useful support Warframe.
  • In Defense and Mobile Defense Missions, Limbo can use Cataclysm to transport the defending Warframes and the mission object to the Rift Plane, making it and the Warframes invulnerable to all enemies outside of the Cataclysm. This works especially well against strong ranged enemies.
  • In Spy Missions, being in the Rift Plane will not trigger alarms when passing through Laser Barriers, making some Data Vaults extremely easy.
    • Enemies, Cameras, and Sensor Regulators can still detect you while in the Rift Plane.
    • Using Banish on a Loki with Invisibility active can let them have free mobility through Data Vaults, as Loki will be undetectable by Cameras, Regulators, Enemies, and Laser Barriers.
    • When raiding a Spy mission alone, using a Huras Kubrow or Shade Sentinel to hide from enemies will make Limbo invisible and untouchable, thus he can simply ignore all barriers, enemies and other countermeasures in the vaults all by himself.
  • In Rescue Missions, Limbo's abilities may prove useful:
    • Once freed, Banishing a rescue target keeps them perfectly safe, for the duration.
    • On the Infested Ship tileset, Limbo can walk through the detection lasers while in the Rift Plane without triggering an execution.

  • Rift Walk: Movement Activated Ability:
    • Tapping the roll key (default binding Shift) will shift Limbo between the Rift and Material Plane at no Energy cost.
    • Shifting into the Rift leaves behind a tear that, for a brief period of time (5s),
    • Limbo and Allies can use it to enter the Rift. Limbos that enter the Rift through the tear can remain in the Rift as long as they please, unlike Allies who have temporary access.
  • 1: Banish:
    • Send enemies and Allies within a small radius into or out of the Rift for a period of time.
    • Banish targets must be in the same Plane as Limbo to be affected.
    • Banished enemies will take damage when casted and will be knocked down for a brief period of time.
