Nova uses electromagnetic energy to contain and control highly volatile antimatter that fuels her abilities.

Nova is an antimatter themed Warframe released in Update 9. She is somewhat fragile with low shield capacity, fair health and lacks in defensive abilities. In return, she features extremely powerful offensive abilities capable of demolishing entire waves of enemies.

  • Both the name and the abilities of this Warframe were chosen by submissions of Design Council being filtered by Digital Extremes then voting by the Design Council community.
  • Nova is one of the fastest Warframes with a base sprint speed third only to Loki and Mirage.
  • The term nova refers to the violent outbursts of energy that occur in cataclysmic variable stars. These variables are actually binary stars that consist of a tidally-distorted companion that accretes stellar material onto the surface of a white dwarf. In this accretion disk, the infalling matter is highly compressed on the white dwarf's surface due to its immense gravity. This process increases the pressure and temperature of the collected matter tremendously: enough to burn hydrogen. As this matter contains mostly hydrogen, runaway fusion reactions occur on the white dwarf's surface, producing an extremely bright thermonuclear outburst.
  • According to Nova's profile, her Warframe was a result of Tenno High Council research, implying that she could possibly be a recently developed Warframe. This makes her and, possibly, Valkyr the only Warframes that are made in the current time period, after the Old Orokin War.
  • Nova is the last Warframe with a helmet that grants statistical changes (The Flux Nova Helmet), as all helmets released from Nekros onward have since been entirely cosmetic.
  • Currently one of two frames that has three alternate helmets. The other being Loki.


  • Dying, while wearing a different helmet and using a different color scheme, causes Nova's head to return to default coloring.
  • Casting Molecular Prime then having a Trinity cast Blessing before you execute a target will cause the explosion to be the color of the Trinity's energy, rather than your own.

  • Nova creates 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 antimatter particles that orbit her and automatically launch themselves at enemies within 7 / 8 / 10 / 12 meters. Each particle inflicts 100 / 125 / 150 / 200 Slash b Slash damage.
    • Damage is affected by Power Strength.
    • Particles can deal extra damage from headshots.
    • Number of particles is affected by Power Duration; every 17% increase/decrease adds or removes a particle.
    • Attack radius is affected by Power Range.
  • Nova cannot be knocked down while casting Null Star.
  • Particles orbit for a minimum of 1 second before seeking a target.
  • Particles will only fire one at a time, (i.e., multiple particles will not fire simultaneously).
  • Particles do not vanish after a period of inactivity and will last until used.
  • Null Star cannot be recast until all particles have been used.
  • Conclave rating: 15 / 15 / 33 / 50.

Main article: Neutron Star

Neutron Star is a Warframe Augment mod for Nova that allows all active Null Star particles to be detonated by pressing the ability key (1), dealing area-of-effect damage and Blast b Blast proc.

  • When you are full on energy and come across extra energy spheres laying on the floor, you can cast a "free" Null Star and instantly go back to full energy. This allows you to easily keep stars active for each encounter.

  • Nova creates a volatile orb of antimatter which is steered with the aiming reticle. This particle absorbs all damage (friendly and hostile) when shot at, and once the particle makes contact with a solid object it will detonate and inflict 100 base damage + 100% / 200% / 300% / 400% of all absorbed damage as Radiation b Radiation damage with an explosion radius of 5 / 8 / 10 / 15 meters. When the particle comes into contact with an enemy, 10 Radiation b Radiation damage is inflicted prior to detonation.
    • Base damage and contact damage are affected by Power Strength.
    • Damage can be absorbed from other Antimatter Drop explosions, and the damage multiplier is applied to the absorbed damage again: resulting in an exponential gain.
    • The blast is not obstructed by the environment and can inflict extra damage from headshots.
    • The explosion radius is not affected by Power Range.
    • This ability is a one-handed action, as such, it will not interrupt full actions such as reloading, charging, or shooting.
  • The orb will follow your reticle through all three dimensions (if you look at the floor it will attempt to land on that specific piece of the floor).
  • Looking directly at the orb while it is relatively close to you will slow the orb down significantly as to give you a chance to shoot at it.
  • You can have multiple particles active simultaneously.
  • Particles will detonate on impact with anything solid including enemies, the ground, other particles, and friendly players.
  • The particle seems to have unlimited duration until it comes into contact with a solid object. However, multiple instances of particles at the same time will cause randomly timed explosions until there is only one left.
  • Conclave rating: 15 / 15 / 38 / 60.

  • Undoubtedly if done correctly, this is the most effective ability that can be used against powerful bosses that retain a single stage of health, as a well-charged drop can deal damages up to more than 100,000 Radiation damage on a single explosion.
  • Using accurate weapons such as the Flux Rifle is recommended to provide continuous flow of damage to the drop.
  • Use weapons that have zero or little recoil. Recoil moves the weapon upward and this will move the reticle as well, which in turn will steer the orb away from the centerline (when it flies away from you) and will be very hard to hit.
  • Critical damage does not amplify the Drop further, as Critical hits does not compute on inanimate objects such as the Explosive Barrel.
  • Drops can be chained by launching a second mote before the first mote explodes nearby, further multiplying the damage released by the first mote. This can continue endlessly in order to result virtually unlimited amounts of damage.

  • Dealing excessive amounts of damage (at least 20,000 damage) to the particle will result in it dealing almost no damage upon detonation.
  • If you are not the host or if there is lag the particle can sometimes turn invisible.
  • Whether hosting or not, there is a bug where zooming onto the particle will not slow it down and it will accelerate normally.

    Worm Hole
    Creates a wormhole allowing instantaneous travel.

    • Creates a wormhole with an entrance directly in front of Nova, and an exit-point wherever Nova was targeting at the time the ability was cast. The portal will last for 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 seconds or until 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 uses. Only 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 instance(s) of Worm Hole can be made.
    • Enemies can travel through the wormhole.
    • Weapon projectiles are not blocked or redirected by the wormhole.
    • Casting Worm Hole does not interrupt reloads.
    • Gives Conclave rating of 10 / 10 / 35 / 60 each level.

  • The wormhole is created with a hit-scan "projectile" around Nova's feet to the reticule. This is why wormholes created over guardrails do not appear at their targeted location.
  • Wormholes can cover large areas of map; extremely useful when you want to reach a key objective or a downed teammate in time.

  • If a Wormhole is placed at the proximity of a Snow Globe and/or going through a Snow Globe one will not be able to enter the wormhole.

    Molecular Prime
    Primes all enemies in a radius with anti-matter.

    • Nova unleashes a radial wave of anti-matter particles. The wave starts 5 meters from nova and propagates at a speed of 5 meters per second for 2 / 3 / 4 / 6 s seconds before dissipating (effective range 15 / 20 / 25 / 35 m). All enemies in range are coated in anti-matter that destabilizes their molecular structure for 10 / 15 / 20 / 30 seconds.
      • Wave expansion duration and prime duration are affected by Power Duration.
      • Wave's initial 35m range is not affected by Power Range.
      • Enemies within the wave's initial range are instantly primed.
    • Primed enemies move and attack 10% / 20% / 25% / 30% slower, take 200% damage from all sources, and detonate upon death dealing 150 / 300 / 500 / 800 Blast b Blast damage to enemies within 6 / 7 / 8 / 10 meters.
      • Speed debuff and explosion damage are affected by Power Strength.
      • The value of the speed debuff is determined by adding power strength's bonus directly to the speed debuff's base value (e.g., with +30% power strength, the speed debuff will be 0.3 + 0.3 = 60% at max rank). Speed debuff cannot be increased beyond 75%.
      • Power strength less than -10% / -20% / -25% / -30% will yield a negative speed debuff that increases an enemy's speed (e.g., -60% power strength will produce a 0.3 - 0.6 = -30% speed debuff at max rank, which implies the enemy will move and attack 30% faster).
      • Explosion radius is affected by Power Range.
    • Each explosion can cause the subsequent death and detonation of nearby enemies, resulting in a chain reaction.
    • Molecular Prime does not stack from multiple Novas in a cell. M. Primed enemies can not be reprimed until their current buff or debuff wears off.
    • Nova is not invincible while casting, but she can resist knockdowns.
    • Can be cast in the air.
    • Gives Conclave rating of 50 / 50 / 50 / 50.

  • Synergizes well with Nyx's Chaos as units will attack each other dealing double damage, weakening every individual until someone dies and causes a series of chain explosions that can kill the entire group.
  • Primed enemies' bodies visibly dissolve after death by detonation, but they are actually hidden and not yet removed, thus allowing Nekros to cast Desecrate.

    • Maximized Power Duration increases wave duration to 15.4 seconds (82 m), and increases prime duration to 77.1 seconds.
      • Reduces the explosion radius to 3.4 meters.
    • Maximized Power Efficiency reduces cost to 25 energy.
      • Decreases wave duration to 2.4 seconds (17.5 m), and decreases prime duration to 12 seconds.
    • Maximized Power Range increases explosion radius to 23.5 meters.
      • Reduces damage to 320 per explosion, and increases enemy speed by 30%.
    • Maximized Power Strength increases damage to 1,832 per explosion, and decreases enemy speed by 75%.
      • Increases cost to 155 energy.

    Nova is an offensive/utility Warframe that excels in speed running, quickly dispatching large numbers of enemies, and killing bosses. What she lacks in defensive abilities, she makes up for in pure offense.

    As she has a Bar polarity, consider using Corrosive Projection, as it will lower the enemy armor rating by 30%, allowing Molecular Prime to deal more damage to armored enemies. At high levels, it is ideal to use in place of energy siphon.


    Null Star

    Null Star can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. It is relatively unremarkable when unranked, but at max rank, it can prove to be quite useful.

    For offensive purposes, it can deal a good amount of damage to a single target by itself, dealing a total of 1200 damage after all six particles have launched (or more, if you are using Continuity and Constitution). Keep in mind that each particle will stun on hit, allowing you to continually stagger a target while you attack them.

    Defensively, it is wise to use it before reviving an ally or accessing a terminal, as you are very vulnerable when doing either. Activating Null Star beforehand can stun or kill any enemies nearby that decide to attack you, preventing you from taking a lot of unnecessary damage.

    On higher enemy ranks Nova may wish to use the skill in the same manner as Rhino's Iron Skin and recast it every time it is depleted as this will prevent her from being blindsided by enemies that are stuck in corners or behind obstacles. This is particularly important in Grineer tilesets because infantry will often jam themselves into corners on either side of the round doorways and open fire as soon as the player passes by. 

    Antimatter Drop

    Undeniably one of the most powerful abilities in Warframe, Antimatter Drop's power does not lie in its base damage, but in absorbing damage. Antimatter Drop absorbs all incoming fire, increasing the damage it will deal upon detonation with each shot. At max rank, the absorbed damage will be multiplied by 4.

    It is wise to have a full clip before releasing an Antimatter Drop. Upon using the ability, continue firing at it nonstop. A high powered fully modded, max ranked, potato'd weapon, especially ones that do a large amount of damage, such as the Flux Rifle, Acrid or Lanka, can easily cause Antimatter Drop to deal well over 20,000 damage, instantly killing almost any boss. Using weapons with 100% accuracy or small spreads allows Nova to continue pouring bullets into the Drop for a longer period of time. 

    Antimatter Drop can be tricky to control though, as it moves based on where you are facing, whether you are aiming or not. Keep this in mind to control it. If you aren't absolutely sure that enemy fire will kill you it may be wiser to persevere through the hail of bullets and continue guiding the Drop until it detonates as prematurely running for cover may cause a loaded drop to float back to you and waste your invested ammo.


    Wormhole opens up a one-way portal that will teleport anyone that enters it, friend or foe, to the target location. This is useful for rushing missions, helping allies catch up, reaching otherwise difficult-to-reach areas, or messing with enemies (And some unsuspecting allies as well). Be sure to upgrade it, as this will increase the number of uses per Wormhole.

    Molecular Prime

    A devastating ability, it does no damage initially, but primes targets in the area. Primed targets are slowed by 50% and takes double damage. Upon death, a target will explode doing it's damage, often detonating other nearby primed targets. This allows for chain explosions; upgrading it will increase its damage greatly.

    Molecular Prime works incredibly well in conjunction with Antimatter Drop, weakening a boss, or killing entire legions of enemies by triggering an explosion. A maxed Stretch is highly recommended with this ability.

    It should be noted that the slow effect for Molecular Prime stacks with other abilities that slow. When used alongside Frost's snowglobe, or other effects such as Cold elemental mods, this ability is also capable of bringing enemies and bosses to a grinding halt, dramatically slowing them and easing the capability of landing headshots for the whole team.
