Mind control and psychic attacks make Nyx a very dangerous foe. Her ability to reach into enemy consciousness and manipulate their behavior can turn the tide of the battle.

Nyx is a psychic-themed Warframe released in Update 6. Her abilities allow her to disrupt movement and coordination within enemy ranks, making her a formidable ally in battle.

Component blueprints drop from Phorid (Infested Invasion).

Trivia

  • Nyx is the name of the Greek goddess of the night.
    • During development, Nyx originally went by the name of "Jade"
  • Apart from the helmet and gender, Nyx's overall design is almost identical to Excalibur. This was the result of a scrapped attempt to create alternative genders to the Warframes during the pre-alpha stages of the game.
    • This prototype Nyx was practically identical to Excalibur, with the only major difference being body shape. Prototype-Nyx's base helmet (which was no different from Excalibur's base helmet design-wise) would ocassionally reveal itself in earlier builds of the game, replacing the icon of the Menticide Helmet blueprint during extraction.

    • For a long time, the silhouette Chaos projected in front of affected enemies also used Nyx's prototype helmet, rather than her current base helmet. This was eventually corrected in Update 12.4.
  • Nyx is similar in design to Nadia Sudek's Nemesis armor from Dark Sector.
  • If you use Absorb right before the extraction cutscene plays you will be meditating during extraction.

  • Nyx fully inhabits the mind of an enemy, forcing them to fight for her team for 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 seconds.
    • Duration is affected by Power Duration mods.
    • Target is initially stunned for 2 seconds.
    • Only one target may be controlled at a time.
  • Mind controlled targets are not immune to damage from players.
  • Mind-Controlled targets use their abilities to the benefit of the Tenno and to the detriment of their former allies. For example;
    • The mines dropped by Mine Ospreys will not hurt Nyx and her allies, but will hurt the Osprey's former allies.
    • The heal pulse of Ancient Healers restores 100 Health to Nyx and her allies within range. It also restores the health of the Cryopod. Healing pulses can resurrect downed players, restoring them to 100 health, although this may be an old recurring bug that may become patched.
    • Mind-Controlled Security Cameras will ignore everything and never go into the alerted state. Mind-Controlled Turrets can behave unpredictably.(Mind controlling them will make them fight for you, but only when a camera activates them, meaning they can deactivate if the camera is destroyed/goes into the un-alerted state.)
    • Mind-Controlling a Shield Osprey will make it project shields on allies and defense objectives, although it is usually destroyed rather quickly. Gives a +200 shield buff and will instantly recharge shields on contact.
    • Mind-Controlled Capture target will stop running from Nyx's allies.
  • The Mind Control effect will not work on bosses. However the ability still applies a short duration stun.
  • Mind Control overrides the effect of Chaos on the selected target but will not be overridden by Chaos.
  • If the Mind Controlled enemy is killed by Nyx she will not receive any affinity.
  • Occasionally, an armored Mind Controlled enemy may appear as though they have no armor (yellow health bar is replaced by red health bar), the effect is purely visual, incoming damage is still reduced by armor.
  • As of Update 13.7, Eximus enemies under Mind Control will focus their attacks on enemies instead. They will still project their damaging special auras (such as a large fire wave) but these will not damage allies during the power duration. Unknown if allies will gain additional elemental damage from elemental Eximus or if other enemies will have negative elemental effects.

  • Often mind controlled enemy are quickly killed by allied players, before the controlled enemy can become a useful ally. Consider using Mind Control for other uses, like making an extremely deadly enemy stop attacking you or your allies.

  • Launches 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 bolts of telekinetic energy which each deal 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 Slash b Slash damage.
    • Targets enemies within 50 meters of the original cast location.
    • Press the zoom key after releasing the Bolts to make them all seek the nearest target. Using the skill while holding zoom works just as well.
  • The target of the bolts will be marked with a colored tint similar to the graphical effect of Mind Control. This seems to be nothing more than a visual indicator.
  • Each bolt resembles a pointy stone.

  • To prevent the bolts hitting obstructions in open-spaced areas, Psychic Bolts can be aimed into the air, where they will seek their own targets.

  • Nyx causes enemies within 15 / 20 / 22 / 25 meters to perceive their allies as Tenno for 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 seconds. Affected enemies will indiscriminately attack whoever is closest for the duration.
    • Initially stuns enemies for 2 seconds.
  • Unlike Mind Control, enemies will target Tenno if they are too close and their attacks can still harm the team.
  • Affected enemies are given raised threat levels.
  • Can only be reused after current effect ends. The current effect can be ended prematurely by killing all affected enemies.
  • A psychic vision of Nyx is visible on affected units, reflecting how enemies perceive each other.
  • This ability will stun bosses but have no other effect on them.
  • Enemies killed by their allies while under Chaos will not yield affinity.
  • Shield ospreys will discontinue to project shields and simply close up and fly around until the effect is over, and unaffected Shield Ospreys will not shield affected enemies.
  • Ancient Healers will still emit healing pulses but will not heal anything but themselves.
  • Grants minor Conclave rating of 1 at all levels.
  • Makes enemy Eximus' auras negatively impact everyone within range, ally or enemy (for example, the aura of the Arctic Eximus will slow down anyone in range).

  • This ability will help you a LOT against large numbers of enemies, especially in the Orokin tilesets.

  • Nyx enters a meditative state, becoming completely immune to all damage and forms of crowd-control such as knockdown/energy drain etc. Absorb drains 7 energy per second, and will remain active so long as Nyx has energy. Absorb will end if Nyx runs out of energy, or deactivated by pressing the ability key again (default 4).
  • Allies that shoot inside of Absorb will be capable of harming themselves.
    • Allies are also capable of harming other allies if shot at point blank.
  • Once activated, Absorb creates a minimum threshold that increases by ? / ? / ? / 200 damage every second (e.g., an Absorb lasting 10 seconds will inflict a minimum of 2000 damage at max rank). If the total amount of absorbed damage is greater than the minimum threshold when Nyx ends her meditation, all absorbed damage is inflicted as Magnetic b Magnetic damage to every enemy in a 5 / 7 / 8 / 10 meter explosion of psychic energy. Otherwise, the minimum threshold is inflicted as Magnetic b Magnetic damage over the same area.
    • Minimum damage is affected by Power Strength, and damage from the explosion decreases with distance.
    • Damage hits enemies behind walls or cover, and enemies caught in the explosion are knocked down.
  • Nyx is immune to all effects by enemies. This includes the energy drain from Energy Leech Eximus.
  • Casting Absorb in the air will cause Nyx to stay suspended until the skill is deactivated.
    • Absorb will stop any movement achieved prior to casting the skill when used in the air.
    • Even after deactivation, no momentum will carry over and instead, you will drop straight down.
  • After not receiving damage for a short amount of time, the damage counter resets.
  • Raised Threat Level while ability is active.
  • Absorb is one of the few abilities that has unlimited damage scaling.
    • With enemy-only damage, it is just as effective with level 10 enemies as it is with level 100.
  • Absorbed damage is visible as particles of light traveling into Nyx from roughly around an attack's impact point.
    • Enemies which attack other targets instead of Nyx from inside the Absorb bubble will produce particles but will not contribute damage.
  • Shields are restored while in the absorb state, whether Nyx is being attacked or not.

  • Both the player and his/her allies can contribute to the damage absorbed, dramatically increasing damage output.
    • Explosive weapons (ex: Penta and Ogris) contribute a high amount of damage incredibly quickly.
    • Absorb can absorb the damage of an ally's Absorb, enabling chain casting if timed properly (No longer applicable for PC with HOTFIX 13.7.2; Absorb resists magnetic damage).
  • It is not advisable to use this skill with the sentinel Shade. Shade will cloak Nyx during the Absorb period most of the time, whether the enemy is crowded around Nyx or not. As such, no damage will be absorbed as the enemy cannot see Nyx. During solo, the skill works fine still, as there are no teammates to draw enemy attention away.
  • Using this ability while on an Ice Trap in the void will greatly reduce energy drained.
  • If playing solo, this ability is a good candidate to combine Maximized Power Efficiency and Maximized Power Strength. When combined, the ability will:
    • Cost 16.25 energy to activate, and 4.55 energy per second to channel.
    • Deal 3664 damage to targets within 10 meters if active for 8 seconds.
    • Ragdoll all enemies, throwing them backwards.
  • Some user functions are still available even after Absorb is cast (thought it's not clear if this is intended functionality):
    • Weapon detonation can still be triggered, enabling Nyx to self-inflict absorb-able damage (ex: Penta).
    • If knocked down or downed while casting, Nyx will be able to move and attack during the duration of the power.
      • This enables Nyx to self-inflict absorb-able damage (ex: Ogris).
    • If cast while falling off a ledge, Nyx will respawn with the ability to move and attack during the duration of the power.
  • Allies that stand inside the absorb bubble are shielded from incoming ranged damage.
    • This can be a useful way to assist resurrecting an ally in a party of 3 or more.
  • This power can be fuelled by Trinity's Energy Vampire ability, or its drain can be slowed with energy siphon, this could allow a near-infinite level of damage and/or invulnerability.
  • There is currently an exploit where repeatedly pressing and Num Lock 4 will cause Nyx to do 0 damage on enemies as normal, but if cast fast enough, will chain their OWN absorbs and cause anything from minor damage to or well in excess of 9 million damage. (FIXED as of hotfix 13.9.2)

  • Maximized Power Duration has no positive effect on this ability.
    • Reduces explosion radius to 3.4 meters.
  • Maximized Power Efficiency reduces the activation cost to 6.25 energy and channeling cost to 1.75 energy per second.
    • Reduces armor by 5%.
  • Maximized Power Range increases explosion radius to 23.5 meters.
    • Decreases the minimum damage gain to 80 per second.
  • Maximized Power Strength increases the minimum damage gain to 458 per second.
    • Increases the activation cost to 38.75 energy and channeling cost to 10.85 energy per second.

  • During pre-alpha stages of the game DE tried out alternative genders to Warframes, the Nyx model was originally intended to be the female variant of Excalibur however when the idea was finally scrapped the female Excalibur was given its own powers and thus turned into Nyx. During the time when Nyx was female Excalibur the helmet was not the same, instead it was very similar to the current Excalibur helmet and can be seen when obtaining the Menticide helmet. [citation needed]
