Trivia

  • After the poll on the founders forum she was to be named after Sarin, which is a colorless, odorless liquid, used as a chemical weapon owing to its extreme potency as a nerve agent. It was altered to Saryn when a first responder to a sarin attack suggested a name tweak, along with Sarin sounding too masculine.[1]
  • She is the first female Warframe whose base stats defy a trend of fragility, having health and armor values that exceed those of many male Warframes.
  • She is the 4th tallest out of the current 49 other frames, and is matched by GyreIcon272 Gyre in terms of height.
  • Saryn is the 1st Warframe to replace Alloy Plates with Circuits for construction – the 2nd is the ValkyrIcon272 Valkyr.
  • Saryn was given an Immortal Skin in Update 12.0 (2014-02-05).
  • Unlike most other Warframes, Saryn does not bear a symmetrical appearance. This is due to the tissue/matter which is situated on her right thigh, her neck and around her hips. This tissue/matter vaguely resembles the Infested tissue (or rather the structure of it) sometimes found on Corpus and Grineer ships.
  • Saryn's ability sound effects post Update 22.20 (2018-05-17) are voiced by [DE]Danielle.
  • Saryn’s Systems is a requisite ingredient for ChromaIcon272 Chroma’s Systems.

Notes

  • Saryn Prime, compared to SarynIcon272 Saryn:
    • Higher Armor (315 vs. 240)
    • Higher Energy (200/300 vs. 175/225)
    • Higher Sprint Speed (1.0 vs 0.95)
    • Additional Madurai Pol Polarity (Naramon PolVazarin PolMadurai Pol vs. Naramon PolVazarin Pol)
  • As with any other Prime Warframe, moving close to the location of an Orokin Void Death Orb will restore a pulse of 250 Energy to nearby allies, even if that Death Orb is inactive, destroyed, or non-present. This effect can only occur once per orb.

Trivia

  • The PS4 version of the game was the first of the three global builds to gain access to Saryn Prime.
  • Saryn Prime is the first Warframe introduced via a cinematic lore video.
  • Unlike most Prime Warframes, Saryn Prime prominently features an additional color, Violet, on her face and right thigh, as opposed to the predominantly monochromatic color schemes used by the other Prime Warframes (not counting the gold ornamentation nor the Warframe's energy color). This is a trait shared with GaraPrimeIcon Gara Prime, GarudaPrimeIcon Garuda Prime, HarrowPrimeIcon Harrow Prime, OctaviaPrimeIcon64 Octavia Prime, TitaniaPrimeIcon272 Titania Prime and Trinity PrimeIcon272 Trinity Prime (who sport red accents on their bodies), Mirage PrimeIcon272 Mirage Prime (who sports blue/purple shades on her body), and Nova PrimeIcon272 Nova Prime (whose lower arms and legs, along with portions of her face and chest, are in varying shades of blue).
  • On February 16th's "Ask a Cephalon", Saryn asked how to stand out on the battlefield. Cordylon responded with, "[…] it is my understanding that the Lotus has uncovered new technology hailing from the Orokin Era that could interest you…". [1]
  • Certain areas of Saryn Prime glow with the current energy color (if applicable, otherwise will be default green) during ToxicLash130xWhite Toxic Lash.

Update 34.0 (2023-10-18)

Base vs Final Stats in Modding - Health / Energy / Shield / Armor Stat Overhaul

If you’ve spent any time invested in the deeper nuances of Modding, you may be familiar with “Warframe Math” - math that upon first glance doesn’t really make sense, but once you learn the inner workings of the game, it all comes together. While we can appreciate the value that complex systems offer to a certain subsect of players, there are other aspects of the game that should have clear and understandable outcomes. Namely: Shield, Health, Energy, and Armor Modding.

Pop quiz: what is 300 + 440%? If you answered 740, you may just be an Excalibur player.

Vitality (+440% Heath), Redirection (+440% Shields), Flow (+150% Energy), and Steel Fiber (+110% Armor) come with large modifier values that don’t seem to match their outcome in-game. This is because these Mods apply their multiplier to the base stats of the Warframe - i.e., the stats you have at Rank 0. In the Excalibur example, a Rank 30 Excalibur’s Health stat of 300 earns an additional 440 Health from max rank Vitality (+440% Heath) since it applies to his base rank Health stat of 100, resulting in 740 total health.

In this update, we have removed this obfuscation by having Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor Mods apply to the stats of Warframes at their current rank. Continuing our Excalibur example, instead of Vitality always applying to Excalibur’s base rank 100 Health, it would apply to his Health stat based on his rank - namely, the stat you can actually see in your Arsenal. If your Excalibur were Rank 30, his Health stat would be 300, which means Vitality’s multiplier would be calculated off of 300.

With previous Health and Mod values, additional adjustments are needed to make this revision work while maintaining game balance. By only changing where the multiplier applies, a Rank 30 Excalibur would receive an extra 1,320 Health from max rank Vitality, resulting in a total health stat of 1,600. This outcome is a significant buff, which is not the intention of this system change.

To remedy this, we approached this problem in two ways:

1 - We reduced the overall multiplier for Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor Mods.
Since these now affect Max Rank Warframe stats, these Mods need to scale differently to maintain the status quo. Additionally, we wanted these new values to be as clear and understandable to all players as possible! Here are a few examples of these value changes:

  • Vitality: Reduced from +440% to +100% Health
  • Redirection: Reduced from +440% to +100% Shield Capacity
  • Steel Fiber: Reduced from +110% to +100% Armor
  • Flow: Reduced from +150% to +100% Energy Max

Note: These are not all of the Mods affected by this change. We share the comprehensive list further down in this section of the update notes.

Doing some quick math, this means that a Rank 30 Excalibur (300 Health) with a reworked Vitality Mod (+100% Health, applied to the final Health stat) would receive 300 extra Health, for a total of 600. That, in contrast, is a nerf, which we also don’t want to do.

So, our next step:

2 - We adjusted Warframe Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor values to keep the end result of the revised Mods as close to the original values as possible.

With this change, Excalibur’s Rank 30 Health stat is 370. With +100% Health from a max Vitality Mod, his resulting Health stat would be 740, which matches what it was originally.

While this path to the same result may seem a little complicated, the outcome matches our intention: we want players to be able to look at their Health, Shield, and Armor Mods, and be able to understand how they affect the stats they see in their Arsenal.

In addition to everything above, we also increased the base stat values for Warframes so that these revised Mods offer similar value for lower-ranked Frames. To do so, we reduced the amount of Health/Shield/Energy that Warframes earn per rank in half, and transferred the sum of that value to their base stats.

For Armor, this is the one stat that does not increase with your Warframe’s level (with some exceptions). Armor values across the board have been slightly increased to compensate for the Mod changes.

Not to beat a dead Kaithe, but Mods will now be applying to the Max Rank stat instead of the Base Rank. You may look at these numbers and think “nerf” or “buff” depending, but the outcome is that total Modded values are the same, if not a little higher in some cases.

Warframe Stat Changes:

SARYN
Health: Base Rank - 365 (from 125) / Max Rank - 465 (from 375)
Shields: Base Rank - 270 (from 100) / Max Rank - 370 (from 300)
Armor: Base Rank - 240 (from 225)
Energy: Base Rank - 175 (from 150) / Max Rank - 225 (from 225)

SARYN PRIME
Health: Base Rank - 365 (from 125) / Max Rank - 465 (from 375)
Shields: Base Rank - 270 (from 100) / Max Rank - 370 (from 300)
Armor: Base Rank - 315 (from 300)
Energy: Base Rank - 200 (from 200) / Max Rank - 300 (from 300)

While there may be significant changes to Warframe Stats and Mod values as a part of this overhaul, the end result is that your Builds should mostly stay the same. The key difference is the added clarity of what your Health / Shield / Energy / Armor Mods do in your Upgrade screens!

General Fixes:
  • Fixed Saryn’s Molt lingering in the Railjack after completing a mission, which could damage nearby players when it explodes. Molts will now despawn upon returning from missions.

Hotfix 32.2.9 (2023-01-11)

  • Fixed script error caused by Saryn Specters casting Toxic Lash.

Update 32.2 (2022-11-30)

WARFRAME AUGMENT BUFFS - PART 3 (FINAL)

In the Veilbreaker and Nora’s Mix Vol 1 updates, we buffed a number of underused Warframe Augments (from Ash to Oberon). This third and final batch of buffs tackles Warframe Augments from Saryn to Zephyr. We have increased their viability in missions, which we hope will encourage more build diversity.

  • Changed the Saryn Voidshell Skin default emissive color to match the Rhino Voidshell and Volt Voidshell skins.

Update 31.5 (2022-04-27)

VOIDSHELL SKINS

The Void Jump transmogrified lifeforms and materials alike. In the Void’s clutches, even threads were imbued with adaptive properties. Suddenly, Zariman uniforms seemed to change from cloth, to stone, to metal, to liquid and back again as if of their own free will. The colonists realized materials had manifested new chemical structures, and a character you have yet to meet soon learned to control the transformations. Voidshell imbues cosmetics with the morphic material created in the Void Jump.

Introducing a brand new customization system that allows you to change the Material Structures on Voidshell Skins. There are Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Accent slots that can be swapped to materials of your choosing. They can also be color customized for the ultimate tailored look!

In this update, we are debuting the first round of Voidshell Skins featuring Saryn, Volt, and Rhino! Each of these following skins are available in the in-game Market and come with their own Material Structure:

Saryn Voidshell Collection

Adorn Saryn in the morphic material created during the Zariman Void Jump. This collection includes the Saryn Voidshell Skin and Spore Print, a material structure for exclusive use on Voidshell skins.

Hotfix 27.3.5 (2020-03-27)

    • This change may sound scary, but you will still get that same 6 seconds of initial doubled damage, just stacking now. If you play Saryn, you know it’s rare that enemies even survive Saryn’s damage output!

Update 23.10 (2018-10-12)

Saryn Changes

We recently made the surprising discovery that Miasma’s damage multiplier for targets affected by Spores never actually worked. It has been fixed and will now work as we’ve intended it to originally. That said, seeing as it has been absent until now, we have increased the damage multiplier from 2x to 4x to encourage even more synergy between the two abilities.

Seasoned Saryn players will notice the change immediately, as it can make quite an impact on the spread of Spores via Miasma kills. By increasing the damage multiplier we have reduced the following to compensate for the change:

  • Miasma base Damage has been halved.
  • Spores scaling damage per second cap has been reduced from 10 to 7.

Hotfix 23.0.6 (2018-06-27)

  • Conclave: Fixed ability to cast Saryn’s Spore when your Energy is between 1 and 24.

Hotfix 22.20.8 (2018-06-05)

  • Increased Saryn’s Miasma duration to 6 seconds.

Hotfix 22.20.7 (2018-05-30)
Saryn Changes & Fixes:
Saryn Revisited continues!

Spores

  • Drain occurs once per half second instead of continuous.
  • Targets you cast Spores on directly will always spread on death.
  • Targets affected by Miasma will always spread on death.

  • Tone down Spore decaying blinking warning
  • Fixed Saryn’s Spore damage being removed when casting Spores on a target that is being simultaneously killed by a teammate.
  • Fixed Saryn’s Spore damage decay drain discrepancies when entering a Nullifier bubble. Damage was decaying slower the second time entering a Nullifier bubble.
  • Fixed Saryn's Spores and Contagion cloud not using custom Energy colors on cast/burst.

Miasma

Hotfix 22.20.5 (2018-05-24)
Saryn Spores Changes:

The bulbous pockets of corrosive popping goodness have been through the devs’ workshop and are here with some new changes! Saryn, our countess of corrosion, has received the following changes to her Spores.

Curious about the details on how and why? Check out the Spores Revisited Dev Workshop!

  • Spores can be re-cast while active and will no longer detonate all active Spores.
    • Recasting on enemies will put new Spores on a target with a 20% decrease to its damage per second (scales with Ability Strength) for 50% of the Energy cost.
  • Fixed inconsistent spreading ranges with Spores when killing an infected enemy by establishing a new base range of 16m across all spreading conditions.
  • Removed spread on enemies that die to a Spore’s tick damage.
  • Spores’ damage growth over time per Spore is now determined per enemy infected. And with it, a max limit of 10 infected enemies to maintain a max damage growth limit over time. To better explain this change and how it all breaks down, let’s compare:
    • Was: Damage growth is determined per Spore, so 1 damage per Spore every second. For example, let’s say there are 5 enemies. You cast Spores on one of the enemies in that group. 3 Spores are now active on that enemy. Damaging that enemy with Toxic Lash disperses a single Spore to the surrounding 4 enemies for a grand total of 7 Spores (4 enemies with a single Spore + the 3 original Spores on cast). This maintains a damage growth of 7 damage every second.
    • Now: Damage growth is determined per enemy infected, so 2 damage (can be modded with Ability Strength) per enemy infected by Spores every second up to a maximum of 10 enemies*. So, using that same example, 5 infected enemies would set the damage growth to 10 damage every second (Modded damage growth of x * # of enemies infected up to 10). Reaching 10 infected enemies would set the maximum damage growth at 20 every second.
      • *The number of infected enemies is uncapped! You can infect more than 10 enemies, but the damage growth is dependent on that max.
  • Damage per second will now “decay” (decrease over time) when no infected enemies remain.
    • The damage per second you’ve accumulated will first instantly drop by 20%, which will then commence the decay of the remaining damage by 10% per second (affected by Duration mods).
    • Decaying can be observed in the damage per second meter located above Saryn’s ability icons.
    • Nullifying effects (including Data-Conduits) increases the decay by 30% per second.

Hotfix 22.20.3 (2018-05-18)

  • Fixed a script error when casting Saryn’s Spores on a ragdoll. This resulted in the Spores to not show up (but still tick damage).

Hotfix 22.20.2 (2018-05-17)

Update 22.20 (2018-05-17)
Saryn Revisited:
Our lady of poison is taking the center stage with Saryn Revisited 2.0! Yes, that’s right! She has been revisited for a second time, and this time we took a closer look at increasing the fun factor by removing layers of complicated synergies and giving Toxin Lash and Molt a long deserved encore.

Read all about our intent and full details on the changes in the official Saryn Revisited 2.0 Dev Workshop!

Spores
Inflicts target with a pox of Corrosive spores. Spread spores to nearby enemies by destroying them or killing their host (*Specifically by the spores themselves or by the hand of the Saryn who owns those Spores). Trigger the ability again to detonate active spores. Additionally:

  • Increased Status Chance from 10% to 50% (scales with Ability Strength).
  • A meter in the bottom right corner of your screen will show the number of affected enemies and how much damage is being dealt per tick to said enemies.
  • Recasting Spores detonates all active Spores and will deal 2x the damage on an inflicted enemy based on the number of active Spores and the current damage per tick.
  • Venom Dose Augment: Spores cast on allies temporarily grant them additional Corrosive damage to all attacks.

Molt
Shedding her skin like a snake, Saryn leaves a decoy behind to draw fire from enemies. Additionally:

  • After casting, Saryn receives a momentary speed boost for a short duration.
  • Molt now scales similar to Rhino’s Iron Skin - All the initial damage it takes in the first 3 seconds will make it stronger. Any damage it receives after that point will target the absorbed health.*
    • &#42:Damage absorbed is shown in a buff indicator at the top of the screen.
    • *Once all absorbed damage has dispensed, Molt explodes dealing Toxin damage to nearby enemies.

Toxic Lash
While active, attacks deal additional Toxin damage; this effect is doubled for melee strikes. Instantly burst spores when attacking afflicted enemies. Additionally:

  • Increased Duration from 30 seconds to 45 seconds.
  • Toxic Lash no longer grants 2 Energy restore when bursting Spores - With the new spreading nature of Spores, survivability of Molt, and the increased duration of Toxic Lash and Miasma, Saryn is not as Energy hungry as she was before!
  • Contagion Cloud Augment: Kills with Toxic Lash leaves behind a Toxin cloud and Melee kills double the damage dealt by the cloud.

Miasma
Release a poisonous miasma that deals Viral damage to enemies in range. Foes afflicted by spores are more susceptible to the mist. Additionally:

  • Now has a 100% guaranteed Viral Status Effect on damage tick.
  • Increased range from 15 meters to 20 meters (at max rank).
  • Increased duration from 3 to 5 seconds.
  • Miasma inflicts double damage on targets affected by Spores.
  • When recasting on the same enemy it will refresh the tick duration and maintain the Viral Status Effect, but will not stun enemies a second time until the Status Effect ticks have subsided.

General Changes to Saryn:

  • Increased Saryn’s Armor from 175 to 225 (at rank 30)
