Saryn's venomous attacks are horrifyingly effective against organic and synthetic enemies, and her ability to "shed" her skin makes her very elusive.

Saryn is a deadly force on the battlefield. Get down with the sickness, Tenno.

Release Date: March 18th, 2013

Unleashing disease and plague with contagious spores, Saryn spreads deadly viruses, lethal toxins, and caustic vapors that rapidly decompose enemies while invigorating their progenitor. Recombinant properties of her biological weapons result in volatile mutations, drastically increasing the potency of her abilities. Saryn blossomed in Update 7.0.

Trivia

  • After the poll on the founders forum she was to be named after Sarin, which is a colorless, odorless liquid, used as a chemical weapon owing to its extreme potency as a nerve agent. It was altered to Saryn when a first responder to a sarin attack suggested a name tweak, along with Sarin sounding too masculine.[1]
  • She is the first female Warframe whose base stats defy a trend of fragility, having health and armor values that exceed those of many male Warframes.
  • She is the 4th tallest out of the current 28 other frames. 
  • Saryn is the 1st Warframe to replace Alloy Plates with Circuits for construction – the 2nd is the Valkyr.
  • Saryn was given an Immortal Skin in Update 12.0.
  • Unlike most other Warframes, Saryn does not bear a symmetrical appearance. This is due to the tissue/matter which is situated on her right thigh, her neck and around her hips. This tissue/matter vaguely resembles the Infested tissue (or rather the structure of it) sometimes found on Corpus and Grineer ships.

Saryn Prime is the primed variant of the Saryn Warframe featuring higher armor, sprint speed, and power values, as well as an additional Madurai Pol polarity.

Saryn Prime was released alongside the Spira Prime and Nikana Prime.

Notes

  • As a prime Warframe, Saryn Prime possesses a special passive ability where contact with an Orokin Void Death Orb will make them release an energy pulse that grants 250 Energy to all nearby allies. This effect can only occur once per Death Orb, and can occur even if the Death Orb has been previously destroyed.
  • Saryn Prime, along with Volt Prime, possesses the highest energy pool of all Warframes in the game: 200 at rank 0 and 300 at rank 30.

Trivia

  • The PS4 version of the game was the first of the three global builds to gain access to Saryn Prime.
  • Saryn Prime is the first Warframe introduced via a cinematic lore video.
  • Unlike most Prime Warframes, Saryn Prime prominently features an additional color -violet- on her face and right thigh, as opposed to the predominantly monochromatic color schemes used by the other Prime Warframes (not counting the gold ornamentation nor the Warframe's energy color). This is a trait shared with Trinity Prime (who sports red accents on her body) and Nova Prime (whose lower arms and legs, along with portions of her face and chest, are in varying shades of blue).
  • On February 16th's "Ask a Cephalon", Saryn asked how to stand out on the battlefield. Cordylon responded with, "[…] it is my understanding that the Lotus has uncovered new technology hailing from the Orokin Era that could interest you…". [1]
  • Certain areas of Saryn Prime glow with the current energy color (if applicable, otherwise will be default green) during Toxic Lash.

  • Saryn infects a target within 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 meters with 2 / 2 / 3 / 3 virulent spores. Each spore inflicts 4 / 10 / 14 / 20 Viral b Viral damage per second over a duration of 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 seconds. If a spore is popped, 25 Viral b Viral damage with a 100% status chance is dealt within 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 meters, and 2 / 2 / 3 / 3 spores are transmitted to each affected enemy.
    • Spore damage and burst damage are affected by Power Strength.

The spore will have 25% of the initial base damage that triggered the Toxin b Toxin proc added to its burst damage as Viral b Viral damage with a 100% status chance for Viral b Viral and Toxin b Toxin effects.
    • Damage percentage is affected by Power Strength.
    • Toxin b Toxin status effect deals 50% of the burst damage as Toxin b Toxin damage per tick over 11 ticks in 10 seconds. Duration-based status effects are prolonged due to Saryn's passive.
    • If multiple Toxin b Toxin procs are damaging an infected enemy, the initial base damage that triggered each individual Toxin b Toxin proc will be combined when a spore's burst damage is calculated.
    • As an example, with a maxed Hornet Strike, Intensify, and a pistol that inflicts 35 base damage, a single Toxin b Toxin proc from this pistol on an infected enemy will increase a spore's burst damage to (25 + 0.25 × 35 × (1 + 2.2)) × 1.3 = 68.9. If the infected enemy is being damaged by ten Toxin b Toxin procs from the same pistol, the spore's burst damage will be increased to (25 + 0.25 × 10 × 35 × (1 + 2.2)) × 1.3 = 396.5.
    • Only one spore on the infected enemy can transfer Toxin damage until that enemy becomes damaged by a new Toxin b Toxin proc.
  • When spores are popped on a target, one damage tick is removed from the target for the remainder of the duration. All secondary targets in range will be applied with a new duration of Spores. The primary target's duration is not renewed unless a secondary target's Spore is popped, applying a new duration that is separate to the previous duration.
  • Spores can be burst by various sources of damage including weapon damage and radial damage from certain abilities. Bullet jumping near infected enemies can burst spores as well as the radial damage from enemy attacks including (but not limited to) Bombard rockets, Seismic Shockwave damage, Volatile Runner explosions, and radial damage from Boilers and their spawn pods.
  • It is possible to remove Spores from an enemy by completely popping all the spores on that enemy.
  • Saryn's abilities mutate for bonus effects when used in tandem:

  • Multiple instances of Spores can be cast on Molt. Spores' damage will not damage Molt.
  • When cast on Molt, Spores energy cost is reduced by 50%.
  • When Molt explodes, all spores will burst simultaneously and infect enemies within the spread radius. Molt's explosion can also detonate spores on nearby infected enemies.

  • While Toxic Lash is active, at least one spore is guaranteed to burst per melee attack when an infected enemy is struck by Saryn's melee weapon.
  • Enemies infected with Spores will restore 2 energy to Saryn for each spore burst by Toxic Lash.

  • Miasma deals an additional 100% damage to enemies affected by Viral b Viral status effects including those produced by Spores.

  • Spores is a one-handed action. As such, it can be used while performing various maneuvers and actions without interruption.
  • If the initial target dies before the spores appear, energy used for Spores will be refunded.

Venom Dose is a Warframe Augment Mod for Saryn that allows Spores to be cast on allies, temporarily granting them additional Toxin b Toxin damage to all attacks.

  • Can be used to destroy Corpus cameras and (active) turrets. A spore will appear but a camera dies on the first tick.
  • Using both maximized power duration and power strength, each spore can deal 56.8 damage per second over the course of 30.54 seconds while increasing the energy cost to 38.75, reducing the cast range to 20.4 meters, and reducing the spread radius to 5.44 meters.

Molt

  • Saryn sheds her skin, removing all existing status effects and leaving behind a decoy that draws enemy fire. With 400 shields and 150 / 300 / 400 / 500 health, the decoy will last for a maximum of 14 / 24 / 32 / 40 seconds. The decoy will explode if it loses all of its hitpoints or if its duration expires, inflicting 240 / 300 / 350 / 400 Toxin b Toxin damage with a 100% status chance within a radius of 5 / 6 / 7 / 10 meters.
    • Health and explosion damage are affected by Power Strength.
    • Explosion damage does not bypass obstacles in the environment and diminishes with distance.
    • Toxin b Toxin status effect deals 50% of the explosion damage per tick over 11 ticks in 10 seconds. Duration-based status effects are prolonged due to Saryn's passive.

  • Molt is placed at Saryn's current position, mirroring her pose and elevation; however for clients, Molt will sometimes be in a default standing position.
  • Molt's shields regenerate over time and can be buffed with the use of allied Shield Ospreys, whether in Specter or Mind Controlled forms.
  • Saryn's abilities mutate for bonus effects when used in tandem:

  • Multiple instances of Spores can be cast on Molt. Spores' damage will not damage Molt.

  • Elemental augment mods, such as Ember's Fireball Frenzy, can be applied to Molt. The damage augment will not affect the explosion damage or damage type upon Molt's expiration.
  • Molt cannot be knocked down or moved and acts as a physical object, unlike Loki's Decoy.
  • Molt will slowly vaporize and dissipate for its duration, eventually exploding once it nearly vanishes.
  • Can be cast in all states (except while upside down in a flip jump or while dodging) and can be reused instantly.
  • Does not have a cast time or animation.

  • Using during a well timed jump can result it being low enough for enemies to target, such as Infested or Melee units, but be more protected from most melee attacks. (Ancients will still be able to reach, as well as the knockback damage from Leapers).
  • Place Molt in locations which can protect it from enemy attacks to maximize its survival.
  • If Molt is closer to the enemy than you are, enemies will (normally) focus on Molt rather than yourself. applies to the caster as well as other players(except Nyx in Absorb or Rhino in Iron Skin).
  • It can be used as protection from enemy fire, when you revive an downed teammate.

  • When knocked back by an Ancient, the physical target of the decoy will move, but the model remains in place. This can be seen while having Enemy Sense and Enemy Radar equipped while seeing the decoy (as a friendly blip) against a group of infested.

      • Damage reduction can exceed 90%, using Nikana / max Power Strength reach ~94% (Lv.105 Ballista)
    • Saryn's abilities mutate for bonus effects when used in tandem:

    • While Toxic Lash is active, at least one spore is guaranteed to burst per melee attack when an enemy affected by Spores is struck by Saryn's melee weapon.
    • Enemies infected with Spores will restore 2 energy to Saryn for each spore burst by Toxic Lash.

    • Miasma deals an additional 100% damage to enemies affected by Toxin b Toxin status effects including those produced by Toxic Lash.

    Contagion Cloud is a Warframe Augment Mod for Saryn that makes melee kills made with Toxic Lash leave behind a gas cloud that deals Toxin b Toxin damage to enemies within it for 12 seconds.

    • This is a good candidate for Narrow Minded since there is no Power Range,
    • The percentage of Toxin damage granted is multiplied by Power Strength.
      • The exact amount of Toxin damage is equal to the percentage multiplied by the weapon's base damage, after base damage modifications (e.g., Pressure Point) are applied.
    • Toxic Lash is an invaluable ability for players who were not able to collect a Melee Toxin mod or not capable of equipping such on Melee weapons, in which the ability becomes a suitable replacement for those in need of direct health damage.
    • Using a hammer with the Shattering Storm stance equipped will make it easy to pop Spores while Toxic Lash is active, due to the ground slam attacks of the stance's combos.

      • Damage is affected by Power Strength, Toxin b Toxin and Viral b Viral status effects, and Molt.
      • Miasma deals an additional 100% damage to enemies affected by either Toxin b Toxin or Viral b Viral status effects and an additional 200% damage to enemies affected by both.
        • Enemies need to be affected by these status effects at the time Miasma is cast to be dealt increased damage.
      • Affected enemies are also briefly stunned.
      • If Miasma is cast within range of Molt, Molt will explode prior to Miasma's first instance of damage. Miasma's damage will be increased depending on the percentage of Molt's lost hitpoints when detonated.

      • Damage bypasses obstacles in the environment and does not diminish with distance.
      • Duration is affected by Power Duration.
      • Miasma will inflict a reduced tick of damage for non-integer durations (e.g., if Miasma's duration is 4.65 seconds, there will be a reduced damage tick for the final 0.65 seconds).

    General

    Saryn is one of the toughest frames possessing very useful abilities which makes her a great melee fighter.

    Her abilities deals Toxin b Toxin and Toxin-based combined damage (Viral b Viral for Venom, Toxin b Toxin for Molt and Contagion, Corrosive b Corrosive for Miasma).

    Using Vitality and Steel Fiber mods will make her extremely durable (925 health and 55.1% damage reduction) while using Molt to draw fire and Miasma as crowd control makes her very hard to kill even on the long Void runs.

    Skills

    Venom

    • Spores is excellent for bosses with shields to prevent them from recovering.
      • This is quite effective against Ambulas since it targets the torso due and, like all MOAs, he takes three times damage on that body part.
    • Sentinels can also pop spores.
      • Equipping a sentinel with the Sweeper weapon increases this chance.
    • Spores that are popped on a target's weak point, like the head, will do extra damage based on the respective damage multiplier.
      • For example, if you pop a spore on an enemy's head, it will deal 50 damage (25 x 2 damage multiplier).
      • Venom's DoT ticks are unaffected by weak spots.
      • AoE damage from popping spores is unaffected by weak spots. Nearby enemies will still only take 25 Viral b Viral damage from popped spores on weak spots.
    • Spores ability shines on the long runs since it have a fair chance of Viral b Viral proc on every tick. That makes possible to permanently halve (unless healed) health of enemy squad.

    Molt

    • Molt is very useful against regular Infested if placed during a jump - they'll keep attacking it without dealing any damage.

    Miasma

    • When using Miasma, be careful to not get knocked down during the cast animation, as once up again, Saryn will automatically repeat the cast animation, during this repeat animation she will take damage as normal, leaving you extremely vulnerable.

        • While Toxic Lash is active, there is a bonus damage reduction while blocking. This damage reduction is capped at 90%.
      • Miasma Revisions
        • Damage ticks will be done every second, Duration will affect how long the debuff is up.
        • 100% more damage if target is affected by a Toxin proc (Toxic Lash guarantees a Toxin proc on impact).
        • Enemies hit by Miasma when under the effects of Miasma will have the duration timer reset.
      • General Revisions
        • Saryn now has a passive 25% increased Status effect duration.
        • Updated some visual FX on Saryn’s abilities.
        • Saryn can now cast Spore and Toxic Lash while moving.
        • Saryn’s base Armor is now 175.
        • Saryn’s base Health is now 125.
        • Saryn’s maximum Energy is now 150.
