Trivia

  • After the poll on the founders forum she was to be named after Sarin, which is a colorless, odorless liquid, used as a chemical weapon owing to its extreme potency as a nerve agent. It was altered to Saryn when a first responder to a sarin attack suggested a name tweak, along with Sarin sounding too masculine.[1]
  • She is the first female Warframe whose base stats defy a trend of fragility, having health and armor values that exceed those of many male Warframes.
  • She is the 4th tallest out of the current 32 other frames.
  • Saryn is the 1st Warframe to replace Alloy Plates with Circuits for construction – the 2nd is the Valkyr.
  • Saryn was given an Immortal Skin in Update 12.0.
  • Unlike most other Warframes, Saryn does not bear a symmetrical appearance. This is due to the tissue/matter which is situated on her right thigh, her neck and around her hips. This tissue/matter vaguely resembles the Infested tissue (or rather the structure of it) sometimes found on Corpus and Grineer ships.
  • Saryn's ability sound effects post Update 22.20 are voiced by [DE]Danielle.

A golden blossom conceals deadly nectar. Featuring altered mod polarities for greater customization.

Margulis, from your winter ashes, there has sprung a field of flowers. Conceived by me, germinated for deadly purpose. You used to dream of old Earth, didn't you? Bathed in gold and solemn blue. I intend to reclaim it now, from the spores and the ruin.

It came to me like a proverb: Fight poison with... poison. Cure this sick horde with the greatest of plagues. I will call her... Saryn.

Release Date: February 16th, 2016

Saryn Prime is the Primed variant of Saryn, possessing higher armor, energy capacity, and sprint speed, as well as an additional Madurai Pol polarity.

On December 6th, 2017, it was announced that Saryn Prime would enter the Prime Vault and its relics retired from the drop tables on December 12th, 2017, along with Nikana Prime and Spira Prime. Any preexisting components or fully-built frames will remain as is.

Notes

  • Saryn Prime, compared to Saryn:
    • Higher Armor (300 vs. 225)
    • Higher Energy (200/300 vs. 150/225)
    • Higher Sprint Speed (1.0 vs 0.95)
    • Different Polarities (Naramon PolVazarin PolMadurai Pol vs. Naramon PolVazarin Pol)
  • As a prime Warframe, Saryn Prime possesses a special passive ability where contact with an Orokin Void Death Orb will make them release an energy pulse that grants 250 Energy to all nearby allies. This effect can only occur once per Death Orb, and can occur even if the Death Orb has been previously destroyed.
  • Saryn Prime, along with Volt Prime, possesses the highest energy pool of all Warframes in the game: 200 at rank 0 and 300 at rank 30.

Trivia

  • The PS4 version of the game was the first of the three global builds to gain access to Saryn Prime.
  • Saryn Prime is the first Warframe introduced via a cinematic lore video.
  • Unlike most Prime Warframes, Saryn Prime prominently features an additional color -violet- on her face and right thigh, as opposed to the predominantly monochromatic color schemes used by the other Prime Warframes (not counting the gold ornamentation nor the Warframe's energy color). This is a trait shared with Trinity Prime (who sports red accents on her body), Mirage Prime (who sports blue/purple shades on her body), and Nova Prime (whose lower arms and legs, along with portions of her face and chest, are in varying shades of blue).
  • On February 16th's "Ask a Cephalon", Saryn asked how to stand out on the battlefield. Cordylon responded with, "[…] it is my understanding that the Lotus has uncovered new technology hailing from the Orokin Era that could interest you…". [1]
  • Certain areas of Saryn Prime glow with the current energy color (if applicable, otherwise will be default green) during Toxic Lash.

Info
  • Saryn infects an enemy target within 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 meters with 2 / 2 / 3 / 3 virulent spores for an unlimited duration. Each individual spore inflicts Corrosive b Corrosive damage per second with a 50% Corrosive b Corrosive status chance, lasting until the spores themselves or the infected enemy is destroyed.
  • Saryn's disease spreads its infection rapidly, grows evermore lethal, and decays in the absence of hosts over the course of the epidemic:

  • Shooting or hitting a spore directly bursts its membrane to release infectious pus, which regrows the spore on its host and transmits 1 spore to all nearby enemies within 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 meters; infected enemies can carry up to 3 spores via transmission from another enemy.
    • Spread radius is affected by Ability Range.
    • Transmitted spore and max spores per enemy via spread are not affected by mods.
    • Spores can spread by directly bursting them with weapons, abilities, and Bullet Jump. Enemy attacks can also burst spores on contact.
    • Spread bypasses obstacles in the environment and damage does not diminish with distance.
  • All spores on an infected enemy will burst and spread if any of the following conditions are met:
    • Spores' initial target is killed by any source.
    • Players landing the killing blow on any infected enemies.
    • Infected enemies are killed by Molt's explosion damage.
    • Saryn's weapons hitting anywhere on the infected enemies' body while Toxic Lash is active.
    • Infected enemies are killed by any source while sickened by Miasma.
  • Spores do not spread if enemies infected via transmission are killed by Spores' damage per second alone.

  • When the outbreak first begins, damage per second starts at ? / ? / ? / 10 Corrosive b Corrosive damage; for every second Spores remain active, damage per second increases by ? / ? / ? / 2 Corrosive b Corrosive damage per infected enemy, up to a damage growth cap of 10 infected enemies. Current damage per second is uniform across all active spores and will apply to newly infected enemies.
    • Initial damage and damage growth per second are affected by Ability Strength.
    • Damage growth enemy cap is not affected by mods.
      • Amount of infected enemies is unlimited, only damage growth is capped.
    • Current damage per second is hard-capped at 100,000 damage.
  • While Spores is active, a stylized infection meter appears above Saryn's ability icons on the HUD, indicating the current damage per second and tracks the number of infected enemies in the mission affected by spores belonging to the player.

  • When zero infected remains, Spores' current damage per second is instantly reduced by 20% then decays at 10% of the new total every 0.5 seconds until it reaches the initial damage amount. Damage decay stops when at least one enemy is infected by Spores.
    • Reset decay is inversely affected by Ability Strength (e.g., more strength reduces amount consumed.)
    • Damage decay rate is inversely affected by Ability Duration (e.g., more duration reduces amount of damage decay per half second.)
    • Nullifying effects (such as entering Sanctuary Onslaught Data-Conduits) increases the decay rate to 30% per half second.
    • Damage decay interval is not affected by mods.
  • Current damage per second is visibly subtracted from the meter whilst a red flashing "decaying" warning message replaces the counter for number of infected enemies.
  • The infection meter disappears when it reaches the initial damage amount.

  • If Spores is still active, recasting Spores on any enemy consumes 20% of current damage per second from the infection meter and casts Spores for 50% reduced energy cost. Recasting on an infected enemy grows a new set of spores on the target, which carries up to 12 spores via recasting Spores on it.
    • Reset decay is inversely affected by Ability Strength (e.g., more strength reduces amount consumed.)
    • Recast energy discount and max spores per enemy via recast are not affected by mods.
  • Miasma deals an additional 200% damage to enemies affected by Spores.
  • Spores is a one-handed action. As such, it can be used while performing various maneuvers and actions without interruption.
  • If the initial target dies before the spores appear, energy used for Spores will be refunded.

Augment

Venom Dose is a Warframe Augment Mod for Saryn that allows Spores to be cast on allies, temporarily granting them additional Corrosive b Corrosive damage to all attacks.

Rank Toxin Damage Duration Cost
0 50% 28 6
1 65% 32 7
2 80% 36 8
3 100% 40 9

Tips & Tricks
  • Cast on an enemy in the middle of a crowd and promptly kill it or use one of the many methods to spread the spores.
  • Each spore inflicts damage per second and Corrosive b Corrosive status effect on proc, which is tripled on an enemy carrying three spores from a max rank Spores cast or accumulated from transmission from other infected enemies.
  • Infect at least 10 enemies to maximize damage growth, allowing Spores to reach higher damage per second counts over time.
  • Mod for Ability Strength to increase initial damage, damage growth per enemy, status chance, while reducing the reset decay on recast or on zero infected present.
    • Status chance can reach 100% with 200% Ability Strength.
  • Recast Spores several times to inflict an enemy with up to 12 spores to strip its Armor quickly, deal more damage per second instances, and provide more spores to spread.
    • However, note that each recast will consume a percentage of damage per second stored in your infection meter.
  • Use Toxic Lash to spread spores on an infected enemy on every hit using your gun or melee.
  • Cast Miasma to inflict double damage to all enemies infected by Spores within range.
  • Can be used to destroy Corpus cameras and (active) turrets. A spore will appear but a camera dies on the first tick.
  • When combined with AoE weapons (such as Ignis and Embolist, which both deal DoT, increased by Saryn's passive), the spores will pop very easily, quickly spreading Corrosive b Corrosive procs.
  • The ability synergizes well with Nova's Molecular Prime, both spreading and weakening enemies until one dies and causes a series of chain explosions and effectively quartering enemy survivability.

Info
  • Saryn sheds her skin, removing all existing status effects and increasing her movement speed by 1.5x for 5 seconds, while leaving behind a decoy with 400 shields and 150 / 300 / 400 / 500 health that draws enemy fire for 14 / 24 / 32 / 40 seconds. When deployed, the decoy is invulnerable for a period of 1.5 / 2 / 3 / 3 seconds, during which all incoming damage absorbed by it is converted and added to its health. The decoy will explode if it loses all of its hitpoints, if its duration expires or if the ability is cast again, inflicting 240 / 300 / 350 / 400 Toxin b Toxin damage with 100% Toxin b Toxin status chance to all enemies within 5 / 6 / 7 / 10 meters from it.
    • Decoy's health, explosion damage, and Saryn's speed multiplier, are all affected by Ability Strength.
      • Explosion damage does not bypass obstacles in the environment and diminishes with distance.
    • Decoy's lifespan and speed buff duration are affected by Ability Duration, while the invulnerability period is not
    • Explosion radius is affected by Ability Range.
    • Toxin b Toxin damage is effective against Flesh and Ferrite Armor and bypasses Shielded and Proto Shields, but is less effective against Machinery, Robotics, and Fossilized.
    • Toxin b Toxin status effect deals 50% of the explosion damage per tick over 11 ticks in 10 seconds (duration is prolonged due to Saryn's passive).
    • Does not have a cast time or animation.
  • Molt's decoy is placed at Saryn's current position, mirroring her pose and elevation.
    • Molt's shields regenerate over time and can be buffed with the use of allied Shield Ospreys, whether in Specter or Mind Controlled forms.
    • Elemental augment mods, such as Ember's Fireball Frenzy, can be applied to Molt. The damage augment will not affect the explosion damage or damage type upon Molt's expiration.
    • Molt cannot be knocked down or moved, and acts as a physical object, unlike Loki's Decoy.
    • Molt will slowly vaporize and dissipate for its duration, eventually exploding once it nearly vanishes.
  • Casting Molt can be done while performing any action without interrupting it, including reloading, charging, shooting, maneuvering, and while on a zipline.
    • Can be cast in all states (except while upside down in a flip jump or while dodging) and can be reused instantly.

Tips & Tricks
  • Using during a well timed jump can result it being low enough for enemies to target, such as Infested or Melee units, but be more protected from most melee attacks. (Ancients will still be able to reach, as well as the knockback damage from Leapers).
  • Place Molt in locations which can protect it from enemy attacks to maximize its survival.
  • If Molt is closer to the enemy than the player, enemies will (normally) focus it. Applies to the caster as well as other players, unless the use aggro increasing abilities such as Nyx's Absorb or Rhino's Iron Skin.
  • It can be used as protection from enemy fire, when you revive an downed teammate.

Maximization

Maximization is a form of specialization: mods may be blended to result in values that vary between the top-end limits listed here. Click any maximized link to learn how to build it.

  • Maximized Ability Duration increases Molt duration to 122.4 seconds and bonus movement speed duration to 15.3 seconds.
    • Reduces range to 3.4 meters.
  • Maximized Ability Efficiency reduces cost to 12.5 energy.
    • Reduces Molt duration to 16 seconds and bonus movement speed duration to 2 seconds.
  • Maximized Ability Range increases range to 28 meters.
    • Reduces health to 200, speed multiplier to 1.2x, and explosion damage to 160.
  • Maximized Ability Strength increases health to 1865, speed multiplier to 2.87x, and explosion damage to 1492.
    • Without Energy Conversion, increases health to 1615, speed multiplier to 2.62x, and explosion damage to 1292.
    • Increases cost to 77.5 energy.
    • Reduces Molt duration to 29 seconds and bonus movement speed duration to 3.63 seconds.

Bugs
  • When knocked back by an Ancient, the physical target of the decoy will move, but the model remains in place. This can be seen while having Enemy Sense and Enemy Radar equipped while seeing the decoy (as a friendly blip) against a group of infested.
  • For clients, Molt will sometimes be in a default standing position when deployed.

Duration:35 / 37 / 40 / 45 s
Range:N/A
Misc:100% (Toxin w Toxin status chance)
100% (Spores burst chance)

Info
  • Saryn imbues all her weapons with potent toxins for 35 / 37 / 40 / 45 seconds, adding 20% / 22% / 26% / 30% of the weapon's total damage as Toxin b Toxin damage (doubled for melee weapons), with 100% Toxin b Toxin status chance on every strike. Attacks enhanced with Toxic Lash will burst all Spores on infected enemies on hit and spread them to nearby enemies.
    • Added damage bonus is affected by Ability Strength.
    • Duration is affected by Ability Duration.
    • Toxin b Toxin damage is effective against Flesh and Ferrite Armor and bypasses Shielded and Proto Shields, but is less effective against Machinery, Robotics, and Fossilized.
    • Toxin b Toxin status effect deals 50% of the bonus damage per tick over 11 ticks in 10 seconds (duration is prolonged due to Saryn's passive).
    • Toxic Lash adds damage to every weapon attack calculated from Saryn's total weapon damage before damage resistances are applied. (e.g., with a maxed Intensify and a weapon that inflicts 300 total damage before damage resistances are factored, a rank-3 Toxic Lash will add 300 × 0.3 × 1.3 = 117 Toxin b Toxin damage to each strike).
    • The additional Toxin b Toxin damage is treated as a separate instance of damage and does not combine with elemental damage on the weapon.
    • Cast animation of ~1 second is affected by Natural Talent or Speed Drift.
      • Saryn is immune to crowd control during the cast animation.
  • While active, Toxic Lash also enhances the melee weapon's damage reduction during blocking (default RMB ) by an additional 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%.
    • Damage reduction is affected by Ability Strength.
    • The damage reduction stacks additively with the melee weapon's damage reduction during blocking, and the sum cannot exceed 90% under any circumstances (e.g., with a maxed Intensify and a melee weapon that grants 35% damage reduction during blocking, a rank-3 Toxic Lash will increase the damage reduction to 0.35 + 0.4 × 1.3 = 87%).
  • Casting Toxic Lash is a one-handed action that can be done while performing many actions without interrupting them, including reloading, charging, shooting, maneuvering, and while on a zipline.
    • Can be recast to refresh its duration.

Rank Damage per second Cost
0 100 6

2 130 8
3 150 9

Tips & Tricks
  • This is a good candidate for Narrow Minded since there is no Ability Range,
  • The percentage of Toxin damage granted is multiplied by Ability Strength.
    • The exact amount of Toxin damage is equal to the percentage multiplied by the weapon's base damage, after base damage modifications (e.g., Pressure Point) are applied.
  • Toxic Lash is an invaluable ability for players who were not able to collect a Melee Toxin mod or not capable of equipping such on Melee weapons, in which the ability becomes a suitable replacement for those in need of direct health damage.
  • Using a hammer with the Shattering Storm stance equipped will make it easy to pop Spores while Toxic Lash is active, due to the ground slam attacks of the stance's combos.
  • While Toxic Lash doesn't increase the damage over time effect of gas status effects, it does affect its initial damage, dealing separate toxin damage to all enemies affected by gas status effects, and applying separate instances of toxin damage over time to them.

    • Damage is affected by Ability Strength.
      • Damage bypasses obstacles in the environment and does not diminish with distance.
    • Sickness duration is affected by Ability Duration, while the stun duration is not.
    • Radius is affected by Ability Range.
    • Viral b Viral damage is effective against Flesh and Cloned Flesh, but less effective against Machinery and Infested.
    • Viral b Viral status effect reduces a target's current and maximum health by 50% for 7.5 seconds (duration is prolonged due to Saryn's passive).
    • Cast animation of ~1.5 seconds is affected by Natural Talent or Speed Drift.
      • Saryn is immune to crowd control during the cast animation.
  • Miasma cannot stun enemies again if they are still being affected by a previous cast, but will refresh the sickness' duration and Viral b Viral status.
  • Casting Miasma can be done while sliding and in mid-air, but will interrupt any other action and will force Saryn in place for the entire animation.
    • Cannot be used while on a zipline.

Tips & Tricks
  • Use Spores first to start shredding armor (if any), then attack with Toxic Lash to inflict Toxin b Toxin procs on enemies, and follow up with Miasma to deal double damage and a guaranteed Viral b Viral Status Effect proc to half enemies' health, so Toxin b Toxin damage can eat their health up quicker.

Bugs
  • Casting Miasma immediately after casting either Spores or Toxic Lash will cause Miasma's casting animation to bug, causing the player to be able to move while casting and rapidly cast Miasma.
  • Miasma's duration displays 5 seconds on the ability page rather than 6 seconds.

General

Saryn is one of the toughest frames possessing very useful abilities which makes her a great melee fighter.

Her abilities deals Toxin b Toxin and Toxin-based combined damage (Corrosive b Corrosive for Spores, Toxin b Toxin for Molt and Toxic Lash, Viral b Viral for Miasma).

Using Vitality and Steel Fiber mods will make her extremely durable (925 health and 55.1% damage reduction) while using Molt to draw fire and Miasma as crowd control makes her very hard to kill even on the long Void runs.

Abilities

Spores

  • Spores is excellent for bosses with shields to prevent them from recovering.
    • This is quite effective against Ambulas since it targets the torso due and, like all MOAs, he takes three times damage on that body part.
  • Sentinels can also pop Spores.
    • Equipping a sentinel with the Sweeper weapon increases this chance.
  • Spores that are popped on a target's weak point, like the head, will do extra damage based on the respective damage multiplier.
    • For example, if you pop a Spore on an enemy's head, it will deal 50 damage (25 x 2 damage multiplier).
    • Spores' DoT ticks are unaffected by weak spots.
    • AoE damage from popping spores is unaffected by weak spots. Nearby enemies will still only take 25 Corrosive b Corrosive damage from popped spores on weak spots.

Molt

  • Molt is very useful against regular Infested if placed during a jump - they'll keep attacking it without dealing any damage.

Miasma

  • When using Miasma, be careful to not get knocked down during the cast animation, as once up again, Saryn will automatically repeat the cast animation, during this repeat animation she will take damage as normal, leaving you extremely vulnerable.

Hotfix 22.20.5
Saryn Spores Changes:

The bulbous pockets of corrosive popping goodness have been through the devs’ workshop and are here with some new changes! Saryn, our countess of corrosion, has received the following changes to her Spores.

Curious about the details on how and why? Check out the Spores Revisited Dev Workshop!

  • Spores can be re-cast while active and will no longer detonate all active Spores.
    • Recasting on enemies will put new Spores on a target with a 20% decrease to its damage per second (scales with Ability Strength) for 50% of the Energy cost.
  • Fixed inconsistent spreading ranges with Spores when killing an infected enemy by establishing a new base range of 16m across all spreading conditions.
  • Removed spread on enemies that die to a Spore’s tick damage.
  • Spores’ damage growth over time per Spore is now determined per enemy infected. And with it, a max limit of 10 infected enemies to maintain a max damage growth limit over time. To better explain this change and how it all breaks down, let’s compare:
    • Was: Damage growth is determined per Spore, so 1 damage per Spore every second. For example, let’s say there are 5 enemies. You cast Spores on one of the enemies in that group. 3 Spores are now active on that enemy. Damaging that enemy with Toxic Lash disperses a single Spore to the surrounding 4 enemies for a grand total of 7 Spores (4 enemies with a single Spore + the 3 original Spores on cast). This maintains a damage growth of 7 damage every second.
    • Now: Damage growth is determined per enemy infected, so 2 damage (can be modded with Ability Strength) per enemy infected by Spores every second up to a maximum of 10 enemies*. So, using that same example, 5 infected enemies would set the damage growth to 10 damage every second (Modded damage growth of x * # of enemies infected up to 10). Reaching 10 infected enemies would set the maximum damage growth at 20 every second.
      • *The number of infected enemies is uncapped! You can infect more than 10 enemies, but the damage growth is dependent on that max.
  • Damage per second will now “decay” (decrease over time) when no infected enemies remain.
    • The damage per second you’ve accumulated will first instantly drop by 20%, which will then commence the decay of the remaining damage by 10% per second (affected by Duration mods).
    • Decaying can be observed in the damage per second meter located above Saryn’s ability icons.
    • Nullifying effects (including Data-Conduits) increases the decay by 30% per second.

Hotfix 22.20.3

  • Fixed a script error when casting Saryn’s Spores on a ragdoll. This resulted in the Spores to not show up (but still tick damage).

Hotfix 22.20.2
Saryn Spores Fixes:

  • Fixed a case where Clients may get stuck unable to cast Saryn’s Spores anymore if they cast Spores on a target that dies during the cast.
  • Fixed Saryn’s Spores HUD indicator disappearing for Clients after Transferring to and from the Operator.
  • Fixed Saryn’s Spores not doing damage while in Operator but damage continuing to increase over time.
  • Fixed Saryn’s Spores active indicator remaining when switching to Operator.
  • Fixed Saryn’s Spores breaking if you go through the Onslaught Conduit while Spores is active.

Update 22.20
Saryn Revisited:
Our lady of poison is taking the center stage with Saryn Revisited 2.0! Yes, that’s right! She has been revisited for a second time, and this time we took a closer look at increasing the fun factor by removing layers of complicated synergies and giving Toxin Lash and Molt a long deserved encore.

Read all about our intent and full details on the changes in the official Saryn Revisited 2.0 Dev Workshop!

Spores
Inflicts target with a pox of Corrosive spores. Spread spores to nearby enemies by destroying them or killing their host (*Specifically by the spores themselves or by the hand of the Saryn who owns those Spores). Trigger the ability again to detonate active spores. Additionally:

  • Increased Status Chance from 10% to 50% (scales with Ability Strength).
  • A meter in the bottom right corner of your screen will show the number of affected enemies and how much damage is being dealt per tick to said enemies.
  • Recasting Spores detonates all active Spores and will deal 2x the damage on an inflicted enemy based on the number of active Spores and the current damage per tick.
  • Venom Dose Augment: Spores cast on allies temporarily grant them additional Corrosive damage to all attacks.

Molt
Shedding her skin like a snake, Saryn leaves a decoy behind to draw fire from enemies. Additionally:

  • After casting, Saryn receives a momentary speed boost for a short duration.
  • Molt now scales similar to Rhino’s Iron Skin - All the initial damage it takes in the first 3 seconds will make it stronger. Any damage it receives after that point will target the absorbed health.*
    • *Damage absorbed is shown in a buff indicator at the top of the screen.
    • *Once all absorbed damage has dispensed, Molt explodes dealing Toxin damage to nearby enemies.

Toxic Lash
While active, attacks deal additional Toxin damage; this effect is doubled for melee strikes. Instantly burst spores when attacking afflicted enemies. Additionally:

  • Increased Duration from 30 seconds to 45 seconds.
  • Toxic Lash no longer grants 2 Energy restore when bursting Spores - With the new spreading nature of Spores, survivability of Molt, and the increased duration of Toxic Lash and Miasma, Saryn is not as Energy hungry as she was before!
  • Contagion Cloud Augment: Kills with Toxic Lash leaves behind a Toxin cloud and Melee kills double the damage dealt by the cloud.

Miasma
Release a poisonous miasma that deals Viral damage to enemies in range. Foes afflicted by spores are more susceptible to the mist. Additionally:

  • Now has a 100% guaranteed Viral Status Effect on damage tick.
  • Increased range from 15 meters to 20 meters (at max rank).
  • Increased duration from 3 to 5 seconds.
  • Miasma inflicts double damage on targets affected by Spores.
  • When recasting on the same enemy it will refresh the tick duration and maintain the Viral Status Effect, but will not stun enemies a second time until the Status Effect ticks have subsided.

General Changes to Saryn:

  • Increased Saryn’s Armor from 175 to 225 (at rank 30)
