As you guys are prolly aware the devs are going to make some changes with the objective of balancing the launcher type weapons along with buffing the sniper rifles, and a few other tweaks. As a relevant part of the wiki contributors doesn't really use the official forum I just wanted to bring this discussion here as well.

From the original post:

A coming Update (likely next week’s PC update - August 13th) will include some important weapon changes for the Grakata, various launcher weapons, and sniper rifles. The ammo capacity of most launcher style weapons will be reduced to bring them more in line with what is appropriate for heavy weapons. The damage on sniper rifles will been increased to make them more rewarding to use, and the Grakata will have its ammo capacity increased. Specific details can be found below.

Grakata - Ammo capacity increased from 675 to 750.

Angstrum - Ammo capacity reduced from 210 to 21.

Castanas - Ammo capacity reduced from 210 to 30.

Ogris - Ammo capacity reduced from 540 to 20.

Torid - Ammo capacity reduced from 540 to 20.

Penta - Ammo capacity reduced from 540 to 20.

  • Normal Attack
    • Damage increased from 50 to 100
    • Critical multiplier increased from 1.5x to 2x.
  • Charged Attack
    • Damage increased from 250 to 300
    • Critical chance increased from 20% to 25%
    • Critical multiplier increased from 1.5x to 2x.

  • Damage increased from 175 to 225.
  • Proc chance increased from 5% to 30%.
  • Reload time reduced from 1 to .85 of a second.

  • Damage increased from 145 to 200.
  • Clip size increased from 4 to 6.
  • Critical multiplier increased from 1.5x to 2x.
  • Reload time reduced from 4 to 3 seconds.

Personally I'm satisfied with the launchers becoming closer to what one would expect from a launcher in any game (no more infinite ammo feeling), I cant tell much about grakata ammo buff as I never used that weapon, but I suppose it's for the good.

About the sniper rifles, I doubt they will become much more popular with the stats buff, their problem is a lot deeper than that, they were already and will remain viable, but far of being the best choices except for very specific situations. Waframe fast pace usually prejudices the sniper role, also most tilesets do not help, taking the combat to close/medium range, and most of the time you won't face a few powerful enemies but large groups of weak enemies, as their levels scale, past some point they will all be powerful, but still in large groups, so the typical sniper tactic of wiping out high threats isn't that rewarding, as lesser enemies surrounding you could kill you the same way, for all these and many other reasons sniper rifles will prolly remain a niche choice, maybe when (and if) stealth is reworked that could benefit snipers a bit further.

Many people are unhappy about the castanas and angstrum changes, I can't take a clear position on this topic due to the fact I rarely use those weapons, but something that worried me was the Torid case. Torid is far of being close to the other launchers (that's why almost no one uses it), and reducing its ammo capacity can pretty well make the already underrated weapon, almost completely obsolete.

Fortunately as a late update DE showed they are aware of Torid issues:

"Just a quick update from dev on some of the points being raised in this thread:

More work to come, you've all raised good points. The Torid will get an additional pass to bring it up to 'launcher' par. The Snipetron family will be reviewed, as well as the Miter.

As we make our way through these posts and the threads they link to, we will see what else is to come in this batch of balance passes!" from this post.

Also good news for those like me that ever tried to like the miter, but never could stand it, and also for all the snipetron owners around (how many?).

Anyway what do you think about it all?

EDIT: News from DE, and it seems the weapon changes are spreading beyond the original idea (launchers/sniper) due to the community feedback, you may want to post your thoughts and contribute  here, the most recent update on the theme:
