What to do about Clan Dojos: Day 1

So let's look at some numbers. To make the most basic function of the Clan Dojo for research projects you need the following:

  • Two Cross Shaped Hallways
  • One Reactor
  • One Oracle
  • One Bio Lab
  • One Chem Lab
  • One Energy Lab

The total cost of these items together is:

  • 550,000 Credits
  • 455,000 Salvage
  • 175,000 Circuits
  • 140,000 Polymer Bundle
  • 240,000 Nano Spores
  • 70,000 Ferrite
  • 15,000 Alloy Plate
  • 75 Forma

Now I'm going to use a basic guild size of 10. I consider this a group of people who meet and work together on occasion. Now each one of these ten people will gather about 2000 of a common resource and 500 of an uncommon resource over the course of 4 hours of playtime and only playing once per day.

The total amount of common resources needed:

  • 1,080,000

The total amount of Uncommon resources needed:

  • 15,000

It will take this clan of ten 54 days to gather the common items to create the most basic of structures. It will only take them 3 days to gather the uncommon materials.

Now we move onto the item Forma. Currently we can only assume Forma comes strictly from Alerts and from the Market for 20 Platinum. Given what Forma does to equipment we assume that Forma has a similar ratio to that of Orokin Catalysts and Reactors from the alert system. We are going to assume that there are at least 2 alerts per week for Forma. Then we also must think that these alerts are not convenient for everyone. Only Six of our ten members will receive the Forma from each alert. It will take our group of ten about forty four days to get the necessary Forma.

What does this mean for our group of ten?

In short, the current ideal setting for creating the Clan Dojo is for larger Clans or an long project for a group of tight friends. You will accomplish something great to do it all yourself, but without support you will have quite the project in front of you.

Suggestions:

Reduce the cost of connectors. The overall energy and capacity costs are fine, but the 120,000 Nano Spores is a huge leap over the others. To help promote creativity from players in design, the design pieces should be on the lower cost to promote more use of them. The single 120,000 item is going to blow pockets out of the water. My recommended costs for connector rooms:

  • 20,000 Credits
  • 15,000 Salvage
  • 15,000 Circuits
  • 15,000 Nano Spores
  • 1 Forma

5 Forma isn't that costly, but you can promote more sales by offering it at a lower value. People will begin to use connectors in a decorative fashion, rather than just a functional fashion.

Ensure that players can functionally work towards making their goal. Forma is the largest hurdle due to the way it is obtained. Players want to see linear progress with what they do, but how they obtain Forma is not easily done without extra cash in their wallet. Players should be able to obtain at least 1 Forma a week that is not based on time of day and alignment of the moon. It could be as simple as offering a mission once per week that takes several days to craft. Until the alert system is modified, players that do not spend money on Forma will be greatly hindered in developing their Dojo.

I understand that everyone is trying to get a basic understanding of how the Clan Dojo works, but one of the biggest features that would help flesh it out more would be purely cosmetic rooms. Things like weapon racks, medical bays, storage rooms, and even a display hall that simply serve a purpose to be decorative. Ideally no dojo should be like another. There are numerous functions that could be added to rooms down the line, like the Trophy Hall could have an item that shows the top members in the Clan.
