Raid Earth and Assassinate Councilor Vay Hek
—In-Game Description

The Vay Hek Frequency Triangulator is a one-time use Key item which, prior to Update 15.13 (2015-02-05), unlocked the Assassination node for Councilor Vay Hek on Earth. When Vay Hek was moved to Oro, Earth, the access requirement was changed to having a Mastery Rank of 5, and Triangulators lost their function alongside the Beacons used to craft them.

Acquisition[]

The Triangulator's blueprint was obtained from the Lotus in an inbox message, with duplicate blueprints available in the Market. The resources needed to craft the key were Beacons (not to be confused with the Gear item), which could be obtained from Prosecutors in the Grineer Shipyards on Ceres. Prosecutors would drop 1-2 Beacons of one type each, with Delta Beacons being the rarest. The Prosecutor's element did not affect which Beacon dropped.

As of Update 16.0 (2015-03-19), the Triangulator's blueprint was removed from the player's inventory, but the key itself as well as the Beacons are still intact. Beacons were removed from Prosecutors' drop tables in Update 18.10 (2016-04-29). The Triangulator cannot be sold, but the Beacons can be sold for Credits64 750 each.

Gathering Tips[]

  • Endless missions such as Defense and Survival were recommended for farming Beacons, as players could encounter more Prosecutors per mission.
  • Prosecutors' corpses were affected by NekrosIcon272 Nekros' Desecrate130xWhite Desecrate, allowing players to increase Beacon drops and even gather more than one variant of Beacon per Prosecutor.

Trivia[]

  • The Triangulator is one of the only tradeable obsolete items that remain in the game, alongside the Corpus Void Key and the Ancient Fusion Core.
  • While the patch history hinted at the Triangulator and Beacons having a future use in the game, as of Hotfix 30.5.3 (2021-07-09) they do not.
  • Interestingly, when Triangulator blueprints were removed from players' inventories, it seems they were only hidden from view and not completely removed. This is apparent if you owned a Triangulator blueprint before Update 16.0 (2015-03-19), and hover over a Triangulator in your Inventory. The "Blueprint Owned" tag will appear in the information box if this is the case.
